Hope everyone can read it okay. It talks more about medication for physical health issues, but does challenge the idea we need a tablet for everything. It talks about how patients have also been taught to expect a prescription. I see this a lot in my job. I have had formal hospital-level complaints and verbal abuse when I have refused to prescribe psychiatric medication for conditions where there is no evidence they will work.

It's a transcription of a podcast episode from Mad in America. The basic idea is that withdrawal may be related to how ssri's affect the mithochondria. I have NO way of telling whether this is true or not, but what really stands out to me is the time they spend arguing that ssri's don't only affect the brain and the brainstem but also serotonin receptors all over the body. This could go a long way towards explaining why so many of us experience very physical symptoms (muscle tension, appetite and digestion problems etc.).

From what little I know about this book so far I take serious issue with it. Part of what it advocates in addition to too short and too rapid tapers is that it also advocates addition of other medications such as anti psychotics, mood stabilizers, etc. to deal with any withdrawal symptoms.
