The Linden Method

Featured Replies

Just curious--has anyone tried the Linden Method for anxiety? I tried it 20 years ago when I was in WD and honestly it didn't really help much. But it was very popular. I'm just curious if its still popular. Thanks

Correct me if i’m wrong but the method is “stay so absolutely busy that you have no time to be anxious”

Works for conscious tripping of the stress response and very helpful in redirecting that part, which a lot of people might find helpful.

Wont help with WD though unless you’re trying to pass time till you heal and you somehow have the mental and physical fortitude to go through with rigorous scheduling and packing stuff into every day constantly.

This is key for everyone in WD, distraction is so important. Plus learning to accept rather than chase fixes that often lead to more harm.

@cheeky and @Talltreescoldseas Yes, distraction is the method's primary approach. When I enrolled back in the day, I got a CD (remember those) with the founder's personal story. He took benzos as treatment for anxiety and then hit tolerance. He spent months in his room alone with his thoughts until he went for a walk in his backyard garden. He noticed how nice the flowers looked and started taking photos of them. Then he noticed that his anxiety decreased while he was taking pictures. From there he went out more and found more ways to distract himself. I'm sure the methods and practices have changed since I did it, but his core approach is distraction.

@mstimc60 as much as it's hard I go to work as I find that the distraction helps . The crazy thing is when I have my day off I'm always s mess . There definitely is something to this .

On Paxil since 1995. Seroquel added 2014 after withdrawal crash. History of too-fast tapers/reinstatements.

21 April 2025 taper two drugs at once

Paxil 4% Seroquel 3.5% per month

that ended up being too much and changed to one drug at a time

13 Jul 2025: 4% Paxil cut

29 Jul 2025: 5% Paxil cut

6 Aug 2025: began hold

Oct 2025: changed from liquid to powder and accidentally took 10x Seroquel dose for 2 weeks by mistake

23 Oct 2025: returned to liquid with accidental 4.7% Seroquel cut

 Holding both drugs to stablize

Holding at Paxil 8.25 mg / Seroquel 6.5

Paxil taper

22/4 8.23  29/4 8.20  5/5 8.15 13/5 8.05  3/6 8 11/6 7.95

That was my story as well. Work forced me to focus on something other than my fears and WD. And it gave me a sense of control over at least a small part of my life.

@mstimc60 I appreciate you coming back here and helping all of us , listening to someone who's been through it and survived gives us hope .

Thankyou 🌸

Its the least I can do. I don't think anyone who hasn't been through this can truly understand it, so its important for people like me to share our experience.
