Body pains? I feel so weird, fragile. Like I’m 90

Featured Replies

Does anyone have major body pain? Or body pain that went away? Before all of this I could hike for miles, do yoga for hours, and dance a lot. My hips were very, very strong now when I walk it’s not neuropathy exactly but everything feels jolted and burning, but not necessarily in a tingling way. It’s really hard to explain. It feels crickety and just so off. I also have a lot of pain in my hand when I type or write and I can’t seem to make the motions when I do cursive as fluid. It is truly bizarre.

2003-2023 on SSRIs (different ones over the years) did a slow taper

Aug 2023-completely off. No real symptoms, besides increased anxiety and some emotional volatility, but also was in an abusive relationship

June 2024-did psilocybin therapy to help me leave relationship. Afterwards could not eat and was in panic every day.

April 2025-try to reinstate SSRI (6days Prozac 10mg then 5 days Zoloft at varying mg)=11 days severe adverse reaction total akathesia, DP/DR, brain burning

April 8, 2025 last 2.5 mg Zoloft nothing since

Current/Symptoms post adverse reaction: severe anhedonia, burning in hips and hand, VSS, floaters, feel empty, don’t feel embodied, flat fuzzy. B4 this even during bad times I felt energetic and joyful for the most part. Felt a lot and now I feel nothing.

I think we can all relate. I have had a lot of back and shoulder pains I didn't have before. My back even clicks and can be quite painful when I sneeze. Also painful knees at times. I think it's pretty common tbh

I’m a pretty active person, and am trying my hardest to stay active during all this as a way to cope with the symptoms. I find that I’ve gotten a lot of little weird, nagging injuries that seem to be caused by the sports I do, but that I’ve never experienced before. Not sure if that’s withdrawal or what 🤷‍♀️. I also have new lower back pain and stiffness. I spend a lot of time these days stretching and doing rehab exercises…sigh.

Body pain is real as we come off. I love hiking and now, it feels like I'm 100 years old. I still try my best. I sometimes feels fatigued, etc. my major body pain now is on my shoulders, neck area, and upper arm muscles. It gotten better, but it still comes out. I was never like this before medication. I was active and doing a lot of backpacking and hiking trips ...

08/01/2009- Klonopin 1mg, but took only .25mg when needed, and end up taking every day for 3 years. 08/01/2012 - Paraxotine 20 mg

12/2024- reinstated 5mg (.0740g)after cold turkey. First tapering 07/01/2025 = 1.2% , 09/01/2025 - another 1.4%. 10/01/2025- 4.79mg (.0716g) holding until further notice........04/17/26 resumed taper 0714g (4.78mg). 05/20/2026- .0712g (4.76mg, .28% cut). 06/09/2026- .0708g (4.73mg .56% cut). 06/30/2026 - .0706g (4.72mg .33%). 07/28/2026 - .0700g (4.68mg, .85%).

Yep, I feel like a grandpa with aches and pains everywhere, including a messed up cardiovascular system which causes me breathing issues. Feels like I am on the verge of dying sometimes when mildly exhausting myself. And what if this is SFN or something like dysautonomia caused by the drugs? I don't think that's farfetched.

15. April 2025 - 20. August 2025 on Olanzapine 5 mg

Yes I do.

I have a lot of aches and pains that come and go. They tend to flair up about 5-7 days after I drop down off my medication, then settle about 2 weeks after that.

I have found using Magnesium Citrate to be helpful for joint pain. I have also been meaning to take fish oil, as other people on this site have recommended it as a supplement.

I also spent a lot of time stretching out tight and sore muscles. I try to put a positive spin on it, using the stretching time to also engage in deep breathing, kind of like a moving meditation. Thanking my body for how hard it is working to readjust to the limited drug supply.

I hope your body starts to heal and you can keep exercising. Exercise has been my lifeline while de-prescribing.

I'm in this club. Used to be able to do all sorts of Pilates moves. Now I'm a big injury. Hard to imagine it's the meds but since it's so common I'll believe!

January 2001: klonopin, depakote, wellbutrin. Was experiencing overload from: getting married, selling my house, quitting my job, taking care of one grandmother as my other one died. All in the same year.  Asked Dr. for support and got called "mixed bi-polar" cuz I didn't have real bi polar symptoms.  AND I ACCEPTED THAT. UGH

Always felt sick on the meds so I would taper off. Then I would get EXTREME insomnia which I tolerated for several months before I would reinstate some combo. I've done this about 8 times. I'm extremely sensitive so I take really low doses. Still I feel sick.

Currently tapering off 1.4 mg paroxetine. Started at 20. Also on prasozin, 1 mg, Trileptal, 75, seroquel 50.

5/6/26 now on 2 mg paroxetine.

7/15/26 1.4 mg paroxetine

Yeah it’s not just soreness or tightness it feels like Ligament damage and lunbrication ifs hard to explain I don’t really feel in my body and when I do, it’s like it’s all burnt I used to feel so comfortable and fluid like I could dance and move and now it’s crickety and then there are actual pains like right now I have this weird loose feeling ligament in my left hip and that are burning on my outside of my right hip and then all these weird ligament feelings in my shoulders and burning down in my hands. I don’t think most people in withdrawal have this. I think it’s because I had a severe reinstatement injury. Some of the comments are helpful but a lot of of the times I just feel more misunderstood and alienated. I really appreciate everyone trying to help but it’s not like before I remember when I was in withdrawal… Before my reinstatement injury when I was Just’in withdrawal and I would have aches and pains, but I still felt in my body, and my body still felt somewhat strong. That was so much more manageable than this overall just bizarre feeling like I am a papier-mâché doll. Whose limbs are constantly being pulled and yanked and burnt it’s Just comprehensible.

2003-2023 on SSRIs (different ones over the years) did a slow taper

Aug 2023-completely off. No real symptoms, besides increased anxiety and some emotional volatility, but also was in an abusive relationship

I too get weird body aches, neck, shoulders, knees, feet, back, chest, just about everywhere.

2008, 10 mg citalopram, 2.5 mg bendroflumethiazide.

2021 reduced citalopram over 3 years and stayed on 5.2 mg citalopram for approx. 1 year.

Sept 2023 taken off all meds and put on amitriptyline 10 mg and Ramipril 2.5 mg.

October 2023 taken off amitriptyline and ramipril and put on propranolol 10 mg and Losartan 25 mg.

November 2023 taken off propranolol and losartan.

December 2023 back on citalopram 0.5 mg and bendroflumethiazide 2.5 mg.

February 2024 taken off bendroflumethiaide put on bisoprolol 1.25 mg but came off it same month. Put on ramipril 1.25 mg, still on citalopram 0.5 mg. Stopped ramipril same month. Decided to quit all meds.

June 2024 0.45 mg citalopram

July 2024 0.4 mg citalopram

October 2024 0.2 mg citalopram but had to increase to 0.3 mg same month

January 2025 quit citalopram at 0.3 mg CT.

Not taking any prescription meds currently, health checks have been good results to date.

Just want to add to the pile.

Every since I was on citalopram, I began to get a weird pain/ache on my left shoulder and left side of my neck. It comes and goes but comes during flares or when I taper. But this one is the most consistent.

But overall I'll get pain and aches everywhere in my body: arms, legs, joints, hips, eyes, head, fingers, etc. They will ache, burn, or sting.

Thankfully they come and go and stretches sometimes help, but I feel so old despite only being like 23 now lmao.
