@Bernadette I am glad you are having bowl movements again 💀

Around 2022, I had surgery and was put on pain medications which made me severly constipated. I was on a diet of just very soft foods and by day 2 of no bowel movements, I felt like I was getting poisoned. I had to chug tons of prune juice and manually do like "crunches" on the toilet in order to have bowel movements. I am surprised you went so long without one omg.

Believe it or not, decaf works on the GI tract in practically the same way.

@The Dust , I'll give it a try, I mainly drink decaf tea, so I'll have to give the decaf coffee go!!!

Just be aware that there are other stimulants in decaf coffee...like anything, start slow and low.

AI:

Decaf coffee still contains trace amounts of residual caffeine, alongside very small amounts of related chemical compounds like theobromine and theophylline.

Other Stimulants and Active Compounds in DecafTrace Caffeine:

Decaf is not 100% caffeine-free. An 8-ounce cup typically contains about 2 to 7 milligrams of caffeine (compared to roughly 95 milligrams in regular coffee).

Theobromine: This is a mild stimulant naturally found in cacao and coffee beans. It is chemically similar to caffeine and can have a gentle stimulating or heart-boosting effect.

Theophylline: Another mild stimulant belonging to the methylxanthine family. It is also found in trace amounts in coffee and tea, and it helps relax smooth muscles.Biogenic Amines (like Tyramine and Agmatine):

These active compounds can have mild physiological effects on the body, such as triggering the release of the hormone gastrin, which stimulates the digestive system.

I think I'm gonna just stick to my decaf tea for now or just camille tea. It's been working this whole time and like they say , No need to rock the boat😊

Magnesium citrate is the way. It's magnesium, and draws water to the intestines. Sometimes used before colonoscopies to clean up your bowels.

  • 2012 5-10mg escitalopram with very occasional benzo

  • 2022 - Bad reaction to ansium, escitalopram increased to 15mg temporarily until stable, and started the tapering process

  • June 2024 - Tapered off escitalopram and drug free

  • 19/02/2025 - 28/02/2025 - Triple therapy antibiotics for h pylori. Omeprazole, amoxicillin, clarithromicyn

  • 17/04/2025 - Reinstate escitalopram 5mg

  • ??/04/2025 - Trial of different PPIs for stomach issues (omeprazole, pantoprazole, lansoprazole and rabeprazole). I stick to rabeprazole.

  • ??/05/2025 - Trial of Mirtazapine 3,75 - 1mg for appetite and sleep, just take it for 3 non consecutive days and stop because it's too sedating.

  • ??/06/2025 - Trial of different stomach medications like cinitapiride, iberogast, alflorex. Get bad reactions so I stop them after a couple days.

  • 22/07/2025 - Taper escitalopram to 2,5mg for a week, last dose on the 22nd of July.

Current medications: Rabeprazole 10mg on alternating days.
