February 6Feb 6 Sorry to link to a Danish text, but I found this to be a positive turn and cause for some optimism that medical doctors are coming around to the fact that ADs can cause terrible and prolonged WD. Slow change, but change nonetheless. The Danish weekly journal for medical doctors recently ran this article: https://ugeskriftet.dk/videnskab/nedtrapning-af-antidepressiv-medicin (maybe Google can translate to your local language). Here's a summary: Discontinuation of antidepressants can be a complex process which requires an understanding of underlying neurobiological mechanisms, withdrawal symptoms, and individual risk profiles. Current clinical guidelines provide limited details on tapering strategies. The new Maudsley Deprescribing Guidelines highlight two key aspects: withdrawal symptoms occur more frequently, are more severe, and persist longer than previously recognized; and these risks can be reduced through a slow, hyperbolic tapering process. The aim of this review is to present these principles for antidepressant tapering. The article even references Anders Sørensen who many psychiatrists and MDs otherwise have taken issue with - including a scathing review of his tapering book, Crossin Zero, published in this very same journal. I'm sharing this because it gives me some hope. I was literally crying as I read it because I have been desperate for "offical" recognition of what I - and so many others - have experienced. I know there's a long road ahead, but at least it seems that the "official system" is walking in the right direction. January 10.2025: Sertraline 25mg January 17.2025: Sertraline 50mg June 26.2025: started to wean off - down to 25mg July 6.2025: wean off continued - down to 12.5mg (my own choice) July 24.2025: wean off completely. No more Sertraline August 2025: started taking fishoil, magnesium and Rhodiola rosea tablets December 2025: no meds. Fishoil and magnesium. Vitamin D and Iron tablets.
February 6Feb 6 Wonderful @Tumultarisk thank you for sharing! 🙂 I have found myself in tears a few times the last for months for similar reasons. I’m not a medical professional and cannot offer medical advice. I only offer my thoughts as support. Please speak to your health practitioner about your care. This is a peer site where we support each other on our taper/recovery journeys. If you are from the UK please make sure you fill in a 'Yellow Card' report for the MHRA. It is you doing your bit to help make a difference. Please take the time to do it today 🙂 https://yellowcard.mhra.gov.ukFor US members details here.
February 7Feb 7 @Tumultarisk I found the article you link to in an english version. See the link below: https://research.regionh.dk/en/publications/nedtrapning-af-antidepressiv-medicin/ Thank you for showing that despite everything, there are beginning to be some awareness in Denmark. I wish it would effect the official recommendations, as we know, there are doing more harm than helping. Would you happen to know if there are any ongoing data-collection on WD in Denmark? I sure would like to contribute….
