@Catbird Oh Catbird, I'm so sorry. After having several weeks that were relatively quiet, I can imagine how unsettling it must be to have all of this come crashing back while you're away from home.

And what happened with your brother must be incredibly painful. I have both a brother and sister, and I can't even imagine how painful this must be.

I hope things settle down again soon and that you're able to get some relief and salvage something from the rest of your trip.

Thanks @RachelSusan. Lots of SVT episodes too.

I have now had weeks of not sleeping well. I've using insight Timer's Binaural Sleep audio and it does really help me get to sleep. However the quality and duration of sleep has changed. I'm going through the days feeling like a zombie. Has anyone else experienced poorer sleep the lower the dose?

Hi Catbird, I'm not on a particularly low dose, but my sleep is way, way less than when I was on my regular dose.

I used to be able to sleep anywhere, anytime, all the time.

Now I average about 6 hours. Sometimes less, sometimes a bit more. But it has definitely changed.

And also not a restful sleep.

Hope it changes back again for you soon.

Dear @Catbird , i’m so sorry that you are struggling with sleep. It makes life so much more difficult.

To your question: I have had phases when I couldn’t sleep and other phases when I slept at least eight hours every night, both on low doses ( from 15 mg to 1 mg I have slept well, the problems started later). For me, it has been the typical withdrawal thing of fluctuation. I hope very much for you that this will only be a short phase! Acceptance is a big thing in not sleeping. The frustration or the strong wish to fall asleep can block the exact thing you want to attain. So practicing acceptance for not sleeping has helped me a lot.

Thanks @Nemina wise words. I think the more sedating drugs have been potentiated as my dose of Escitalopram decreases. It’s taken 5+ months for me to stabilise after all the abdominal pain settled. I’ll just have to go with it. Funny thing is I do sleep but the duration is much shorter, leaving me feeling strung out all day.

@Catbird I'm sorry the wave has hit again , sometimes your nervous system is so sensitive to anything and maybe the worry of your brother has brought it on. Thinking of you.Xx

On Paxil since 1995. Seroquel added 2014 after withdrawal crash. History of too-fast tapers/reinstatements.

21 April 2025 taper two drugs at once

Paxil 4% Seroquel 3.5% per month

that ended up being too much and changed to one drug at a time

13 Jul 2025: 4% Paxil cut

29 Jul 2025: 5% Paxil cut

6 Aug 2025: began hold

Oct 2025: changed from liquid to powder and accidentally took 10x Seroquel dose for 2 weeks by mistake

23 Oct 2025: returned to liquid with accidental 4.7% Seroquel cut

 Holding both drugs to stablize

Holding at Paxil 8.25 mg / Seroquel 6.5

Paxil taper

22/4 8.23  29/4 8.20  5/5 8.15 13/5 8.05  3/6 8 11/6 7.95 18/7 7.5

My sleep has been affected these past months. Like you shorter duration ( waking too early).

I hope you can get some more refreshing sleep at last part of the time.

I have been focusing on accepting the lack of sleep as I lay there. Something I couod never do prior to this.

I haven't found the binnaural sleep audio yet. Doing yoga nidra for sleep still on insight timer.

Wishing you some deep and restorative sleep @Catbird xxxxx

I'm really struggling with the drugs Im not tapering. As I've gone lower and lower with Escitalopram the sedating effects of Diazepam and Baclofen have intensified. I feel exhausted all the time and I feel bone weary. Add to this I have TCA induced gnawing hunger. It's a chemical hunger and lasts for a few hours immediately after breakfast. My sleep is no better. After my long stint of intolerable pain which lasted more than 2 months these symptoms are no where near the sheer agony I went through, but these are incapacitating. I have zero energy and feel very very depleted. I'm now unsure which way to go next. I had intended to taper Amitriptyline (due to awful side effects) to hold my current dose, but considering tackling the benzo, but maybe I will lose the buffer it possibly offers for the last 1mg Escitalopram. The terrible muscle spasms may recur once I resume the taper. I estimate I have at least 2 years of tapering (probably more) to taper off.

Dear Catbird, I am so sorry that you have been polydrugged so badly.

I hope someone can give you some advice on what to drop next.

Do you know that pharmacist who made the taper app? Would someone from there be able to help you?

I am sorry I have no advice for you, but I wanted you to know that you are heard and cared for.

Sorry to hear @Catbird, it is awful how many drugs some poor folk end up on. I can see what a juggling act this but be for you. I think as ever listening to your body and reacting is the best. Perhaps if the body is telling you the current balance is too sedative, lift those brakes first. Just do it carefully with little steps and observe. I know the time left to taper seems daunting, thats why like all journeys breaking them down into little chunks, taking each one carefully one at a time not thinking of the next move to reduce the overwhelm. xxx

@Catbird this really is an unfair battle .

If it was me I would do what chippy said and taper of the sedating drug by a little and see if that makes a difference . You can only try and see .

I will be right there with you in this taper battle and I try not to think about how long it will take .

@Catbird I’m so sorry. It sounds like you’re caught between wanting relief from the side effects of the medications you’re still taking but being afraid that changing anything could bring back the terrible symptoms you’ve already endured. That’s such a difficult position to be in.

I hope you can find a path forward without putting you through another ordeal. I’m really hoping things get easier for you.

Thanks @RachelSusan It's more the fact that I'm feeling so drugged and lethargic all the time. Plus I'm not sleeping well and I think the sedative drugs have possibly been potentiated by being in ketosis. Ironically the ketones increase my cognitive capacity, not my physical capacity. I'm really aware of being metabolically healthy due to all the negative effects psych drugs - obesity, diabetes, insulin resistance, ASCVD etc. It's liked trying to wade through mud.

This is going to be insanely difficult. after holding my dose at 1.020mg at the end of April I thought I'd try to taper down to 1mg. The first couple of decreases went okay. My past was 5 days ago I dropped to 1.006mg at today was absolutely terrible. Dissociation, fear hyperaoused , panic, everything seemed unread — I updated to 1.010 and I've had some relief, but I feel exhausted, my head feels full and I'm really terrified I'll never be able to get off Escitalopram. add to that I've got 4 other drugs to taper. the side effects of Amitriptyline are adding to my misery. I'm trying to simplify my regimen so I can taper Amitriptyline to at least half my current dose. This was my plan last December too but I just can't get to the 1mg mark. I'm using to different strengths of Escitaoprram 2mg/ml and 0.2mg/ml to manage the extreme sensitivity

I feel totally untethered . My partner is away and I’m on my own. Already this morning I’m feeling very scared, agitated and have brain fog. I have mucked up my meds. Not sure if I missed this mornings meds. I’ve just taken them but may have double dosed. I have weekly dosette boxes but still unclear. Very panicky 😱

Dear @Catbird I am so sorry you are struggling right now. I too deal with monophobia. The things these drugs do to us is horrible.

Maybe keep a written record after you take your meds...like a post it on the fridge, just till you get through this rough patch.

You are safe....it is your body reacting to added adrenaline. Can you do anything to distract? Breathe....this too will pass. You did the right thing taking your dose....just give yourself a bit extra time before your next dose.

❤️🙏
