How you feel now is likely due to many factors that have happened since Zoloft. You had a year of lexapro and Effexor. I’m guessing you came off these very quickly? I also assume you came off Zoloft quickly too before this? All this alone is enough to make you feel very poorly. Then you started Prozac on top of feeling poorly from all of that which wouldn’t make you feel good. Then big dose changes which will have kindled you some more. You see it isn’t a case of going back in time to when you took Zoloft. Those days have passed now. You need some stability really. To get this is going to take some time holding where you are without any shifts. If you can get a bit stable you could then start to continue your taper off Prozac at a safer rate. Once you are ready to taper we can look at getting you setup properly so you can make accurate reductions consistently. I’m not a medical professional and cannot offer medical advice. March 25Mar 25 It is completely unclear whether prozac is the root cause, or whether doing a straight switch one drug for another was the issue and you went into zoloft withdrawal. This is why straight switching drugs and fast cross tapers are not recommended by any support groups- it is risky and can make someone a lot worse and the fallout from it can be very difficult to unpick. Maybe you are reacting adversely to prozac, maybe you're in zoloft withdrawal, maybe it's a bit of both. There is no guarantee that switching back to zoloft will magically bring you back to where you were before this, not always, but often when people are destabilised, making more changes and introducing more drugs (even ones that used to be tolerated ok) simply makes people worse. In terms of "helping you with the conversion", this is something we're unlikely to suggest anything for, because we do not recommend straight switching for another drug nor quickly cross tapering to another drug. Someone else may post and feel differently, but there is no clearly safe method for this that I can outline for you. Every step in your signature since October 2025 has caused others significant difficulties, and there are 7 dose changes there all of which would be considered too large and too risky in most support groups. The switch to prozac in general would not have been recommended precisely because of the potential to cause issues for a long time, which it may well have done for you- it is hard to tell. You do not have to listen to and agree with the thoughts given here, but they are an amalgamation of the experiences of other harmed patients- what has worked and what has harmed. You are free to choose to switch to zoloft- when using this forum you are making your own decisions at all times after reviewing what is here, and none of what is said here is clinical/medical advice. Nothing I say is medical advice, it is simply my opinion. I am an anonymous person on an internet forum with no relevant qualifications other than being badly harmed by a drug. For all you know, I could be an idiot. You are making your own decisions and part of that is deciding how much to listen to my opinion, if at all. March 26Mar 26 Hey @sunshinekitty I just read your thread and Im truly sorry for everything you have been through, Prozac clearly caused havoc so it's good that you decided to come off it, it is probably the cause of most of what you are experiencing along with the withdrawal itself. I'm also sorry to hear about the breakup you've been through, external pressures serenely add a lot of fuel but despite all of it it seems that you are coping very well. You mentioned some improvement, that's great and a good indicator that your system is healing. I hope and pray that you continue to improve as the drug clears from your system, hang in there and stay strong, we all here for support. The most important thing is that you find balance now, when you reach that point think ahead, we are here to support you. Very important point that @Chippy mentioned, from 0 to 25 is quite a shock to the system, I wonder if you have the option of starting at a more tolerable dose. In most things in life, we don't succeed on the first, second or third try, but if we keep trying, eventually we learn how to do the thing we need to do right, and we succeed ! Trust me, if you will want to taper this drug, you will taper it again the next time and you will be better at it ! I believe in you, we all do, it's all part of the journey. And also even life on the drugs is life worth living, I'm currently planning on a long hold. Does it mean I'm a failure ? No ! Just my nervous system is super sensitive, I need time to heal and focus on other things that aren't withdrawal, and once I'm ready, I will start tapering again. I think a long hold is often a good idea, especially when the nervous is dysfunctional. I don’t think anyone needs to be on these drugs. Our brains become dependent on them and then we get injured by them coming off or switching things up. I hope this dose is ok for you. I would have liked it if you started much lower than this tbh. But everyone is different. Hopefully you tolerate it not too bad and your body accepts this instead of the Prozac. You’ll likely going to feel some bruising even when you settle from the switch. The drug can’t fix that. Time heals this. The nervous likes stability so perhaps a long hold will help settle things enough for you to start to taper down. But slowly next time. We are here for you. It is hard to know what to advise about the actual dose. Had we discussed the switch we would have talked about a lower dose and a cross over taper between the two drugs. Do you feel bad on the 25mg? Do you think it upsets you? Or are you kinda ok? If you want to take some out of your capsule you should weigh the powder or count the beads to make sure you are taking a consistent dose. If you want to a lower dose that would be your call at this stage and perhaps you may want to do that fairly quickly as you have only been at this dose for 5 days. If you feel ok at 25mg then maybe stay there and wait to stabilise. Tbh you could probably just drop to a lower dose straight from here if you can make what ever that dose is consistently. It’s not ideal to jump doses around but this isn’t ideal and it would be better to be on a lower dose in my opinion long term. What that dose would be, is again up to you. I might have suggested something equivalent to what you were on when you were on Prozac. But from here perhaps you might go to 1/4 of a tablet 6.25mg It is a bit of a guess at this stage but I do think you’d be better on a lower dose. It’s important to try to not jump doses around as much as you can. Either way consistent doses are important. 1 how do you feel on the 25mg approx? 2 what is inside the capsules? 3 do you have some micro scales? Well it’s your call. If you feel ok and want to stay where you are then that’s good. I’m a bit surprised but happy. So it is your choice. If you want to reduce your dose you would probably be best dissolving a capsule in water then using a syringe to take some of the solution. So 50ml of water would work. Take 25ml for half dose or 12.5ml 1/4 dose. The most important thing is as @Fullhealing said. You need a landing point. If that’s 25mg. All good. What ever you do stick to it and stay there for a while. You want to be nice and stable. You don’t need to be on it forever. We can help you taper what ever dose you stay on now. 25 or less. It’s just about being stable now. That’s it. I can’t say for sure what you should do. It’s really good you haven’t reacted badly to the switch. A very good start. It will be ok when the time comes and you decide. We will help as I said. Just be happy and get stable. Live your life. 😊 Ps keep checking here before you do things. 😀 I’m not a medical professional and cannot offer medical advice. I only offer my thoughts as support. Please speak to your health practitioner about your care. This is a peer site where we support each other on our taper/recovery journeys. I am an anonymous person on an internet forum with no relevant qualifications other than being badly harmed by a drug. For all you know, I could be an idiot. You are making your own decisions and part of that is deciding how much to listen to my opinion, if at all. Perhaps you should consider this post an artistic work of fiction written for entertainment purposes.
