January 1Jan 1 manymoretodays. Here. I haven't been active or moderating on SA for about 2 years. Just passed 9 years off all prescriptions, after around 30 years doing the psychiatric thing, disabled, etc. Now retired, yet not. Abled, yet time marches on and I am getting older. Interested in general support. I still don't do well with stress. Overall I do okay. And I guess I do need a place online somewhere. Going into 2026. Feeling sad yet peaceful. I lost a friend, sister in law, tonight. So many fond memories. Also thinking 2026 may be the year I really begin to gear up to sell my home of over 30 years now and get to my next place. Which will be a huge undertaking. I'll do it in baby steps. It is often a source of my stress. My lack of decent home maintenence and then guilt. So here's to getting it up to selling par and best price. And finding where I want to go. I'll come around when I come around and get more familiar with the layout here. Finding more peace with less online time lately. January 7Jan 7 Author Thank you for the welcome posts. My most recent health event is maybe some inflammatory gut issues. And I'm so hungry. Eating and drinking lot's of clears to stay hydrated, and very bland and dull otherwise. Just getting that all looked after, as it has been a few months now without my usual patterns and a lot of output of that unmentionable type. Anyways.....I think I'm here to chat with those who have been off all psychoactive prescriptions for awhile. As I'm 9 years out now, and do hit periods where I wonder, boy, do I wonder if a mini dose of something would help me through the dysphoria that frequents me for a good part of most years. Ugh. And also just positive chit chat as to all the wonderful self helps we do and can share. Less focus on the harms, as for me, for now...........I still am healing is positive, while aging. I'm vintage. I can't afford much anger or resentment......it just doesn't do me good. Oh, and then you know.......like how to use my voice and experiences.........I want to build confidence in how to best do this, without causing offense to my many peers who do use these medications. I just heard a wonderful story from a friend today who used bupropion (Wellbutrin is the brand name in the US) as an aide to quit smoking. He used it 3-4 months and then came off uneventfully. No long drawn out multiple meds for years history like mine. It made me very happy though that some can do a short term usage and come out the other side okay. I'll learn morn when he officially tells his story. He may have been a psych med virgin when he took it. Unknown yet. What I do know about myself now, 9 years out, is that it's very likely I am sensitized in so many ways, to so many medications. I look any prescription up and read all about it, prior to filling it or using it. Drugs.com is still my go to. I'm just starting a non-psych medication for my gut and hope it helps. No ski ing, no eating large or spicy is tough. It won't be forever. I've got to look into snow shoes, track cross country skis, and pickle ball. No snow in my desert mountain region in the valleys or once only. It rains and is ultra warmer than usual winter so far. And I'm not complaining. The ski resorts are doing okay.......limited terrain open but still make for a great vacation destination for travelers, especially if they can stay up in the canyons. I'm just a local ski er. So if I was planning a ski destination vacation I wouldn't hesitate to come here and play. I'm just a slightly off center vintage gal. Thankful to be out of psychiatry's clutches and off those sometimes make you sicker medications. All for now. This is an odd color. I like lavender. Love, peace, healing, and growth, manymoretodays alias mmt Hi @manymoretodays thanks for the update! You may have already looked into keto diets. I have been keto for about 2 months and the changes to my gut are amazing. I suffered with chronic constipation (Amitriptyline) and was taking daily aperients (psyllium, lactulose, and sometimes senna or Movicol) with patchy effects. Now I don’t need anything (still on same dose of Amitriptyline). I believe it’s likely due to increased butyrate from the keto. January 24Jan 24 Author Hi, hi @Songbirdand @Catbird And thank you Catbird for the diet suggest. I go for a colonoscopy on Monday next for a definitive diagnosis. We're thinking maybe Inflammatory Bowel Disease. And. The opposite for me.......absolutely no constipation......the opposite. I've lost about 8 pounds over a period of months. I've been hoping that maybe and antiinflammatory diet might be best. Idk though. And there might be medication involved over the short term if it is infammatory changes. My regular doc is functional, so he may have ideas as well, once we are clear on what is up. Oddly......improvement since off a medication they gave me at Urgent Care. So hoping it just goes away. In any case I'm thriving again and so good to be taking care of myself and health and all. As I got thrown from that or never really did take great self care before. Life in general is looking good again. And. I am learning great patience. These things happen to everyone. I do so want to be unlimited in what activities I can do and in food choices but alas......it may not be the case. Yet I can still be well. I do the psyllium daily now. I did a few changes at once and have improved, but not all the way. Gosh, some of it is just awful.......total loss of dignity. I soldier on. I will investigate keto......again, thank you. Love, peace, healing, and growth, mmt I guess we are all grieving the site closure a bit. I know I am. As I grieved when I stopped moderating duties. Gosh, I loved my time there and learned so much. January 24Jan 24 Hi MMT Welcome to the forum. As you can see I have moved your thread back here to the intro topic. I felt it better here where you can chat to everyone. I have created a fresh topic and copied your success story from SA into it. A bit neater that way I think. You are very welcome here and I hope you can get the support and community you need from the site. I suspect you will. Thank you for everything you have done at SA over the years moderating etc it's very much appreciated. The work that site has done in the field as you know is amazing and you were a part of that you should be very proud! It's a human condition isn't it our reaction to it. Wish we would stop trying to medicalise it and see it as a feature and not design flaw. Hard though dealing with the stress life throws at us. Im sorry to hear about your sister in-law. I think I empathise with the sad but peaceful feeling. It's how I feel about the damage caused but these drugs. I mourn my old life but have come to accept all this. I think that's the same sad but peaceful. I don't know. It just resonated with me. 30 years is a long time. And alot of stuff gathered in that time. We have had a home for 20 years now. Actually more like 22. 3 seperate homes in that time but the build up of memories and stuff is there all the same. I think stuff has a habit of doing this to us. Causing stress I mean. Some how it overwhelms us. Too much to be responsible for perhaps? Keeping ontop of the maintenance is always a challenge. My Dad always says 'they never finished the world'. Its true. I try to remember this and just improve a little at a time, if I leave it better than it was its heading in the right direction. Plus by the time you finish one thing something else needs fixing etc.... A perpetual problem that one. Perhaps Minimalism is the way forward! I don't have much experience with these things personally. But I have a family member who suffers greatly. We suspect antibiotics when they were a kid followed by an onslaught of drugs long term including ADs which mess your gut biome. I think that's the key to good gut health, diet really. And no nasties from drugs and non whole food inputs. Gut can heal itself I think just needs time in the right conditions. There is alot of research and work going on in this area at the moment. I use Kefir yogurts once a day to try to do some good in there. Im sure it does something. There’s an interesting YouTube channel called Metabolic Mind — promising effects for mental health. It may be useful to check out keto (if not contraindicated) for IBS. I think there’s good evidence for treating IBS with keto/carnivore. I’ve read that Butyrate works directly on colonocytes to restore the integrity of the bowel wall. Good luck with the colonoscopy. January 28Jan 28 It's so great to see you here @manymoretodays. You were my mod back on SAD and I loved reading your updates. I'm sorry to read about your current problems - losing your friend/SIL, as well as the gut issues. I hope the procedure you have planned will shed some light on what is causing the problems and you'll be right as rain again soon. Sad and peaceful is a strange feeling, but one I know well. The Portuguese actually have a name for it - "saudade" and there's a whole poetic tradition around it. March 2Mar 2 Author Gosh time flies. And I've been one busy person. Hi @Fifree Oh my gosh, so sad AND. Now. BIL, same family is basically living on hospice. So soon after the eldest in my exes sibling family. He came home from Mexico for the holidays and was sick, throwing up, etc. which led to a work up that involved scans and all, and was found to have multiple Cancer sites in his lower organs, colon, gall bladder, pancreas........ Never even got to chemo. He did get to the Cancer Institute. Yesterday or shortly before he was found to have Sepsis again. He survived the first recent Sepsis, but......... He chose to go home on hospice. I just went and saw him last week........I mean I think we all knew it was bad but....... What a ringer........Barely a month after his sister he gets critically ill with no way out. He was in such great spirits too. Likely still is with family members around and home sweet home. Just so terribly sad. Yah, @SongbirdFODMAPS. I get to finally figure that all out. I've got a book coming as well as this handout that simplifies it all. Doing oh so much better now. Budesonide is the medication that finally got approved for me by insurance, only after objective evidence, which I had. Microscopically though. Lymphocytic microscopic colitis. Negative any celiac disease- I guess one can develop that later in life. And @CatbirdI'm doing some keto. And will check out the channel you mention. I want to get to an anti-inflammatory diet as much as possible too. Studying hard and putting things slowly into practice. And @Chippy Great stuff in your reply too. The GI doc well Nurse Practitioner, who I do like, seeing as I was one at one time. In Pediatrics though. LOL. He wants a full 4 months of me on Budesonide, which is a scary steroid really......supposedly targeted at the gut, not systemic but..........you know that's drug company talk and do I trust that?? Of course I am skeptical and do not want a full 4 month course. It has brought me back to having a normally functioning GI system though. So thankful. Yet, will push for coming off it earlier than 4 months, because of my past history and education now, etc. So far, not completely mad from it. Thank you universe. Got off the smokes again. Yay. Even off the patches.......I just went abbreviated with them this time. And happy to report 35 days completely nicotine free today. And going strong. I'm doing a second special 12 step program and have dove in fully this time. It's all online, the groups but of course phone and text and whatsapp and lots of literature, etc. I do it all except whatsapp now. I have quit buddies and assignments and do service around the meetings. A day at a time. So, I am a 2 program 12 stepper. I can't really do ACA or Adult Children of Alcoholics and Dysfunctional families too. Not right now. I do continue working Internal Family Systems with my therapist. Just from time to time. We haven't focused too much on that lately. In it's own time. Some Peer work......I mean I go to a committee meeting for the State I'm in, Behavioral Health and do have a small voice. I still want to get to the point of doing some presentations I think. My story, informed consent, deprescribing with hopes that it helps someone not get as mired into and under as I did. So.......gosh, a good couple of months now. Pulling it all together. Possible Hip Replacement this month, to be determined. I have the 2 week pre-op appointment tomorrow and will see what they think. Apparently my inflammatory bowel disease, and medication of, puts me at higher risk for blood clots and infection during and after surgery so we'll see. My PCP thought it could go okay. I'd have to do blood thinners and some compression beyond what I would have needed but it doesn't hugely complicate things he thought. It's really up to the ortho surgeon though. Will find out his thoughts, or at least the PA's thoughts in the morning. The GI medication(specific for the gut steroid) actually helps with the pain a bit right now........so it isn't completely gut only specific. Gosh I'm ready now for the replacement but may need to wait another month or two. I'm doing so much better with beginning to trust docs again........and communicating clearly what I need to. Especially in regards to "be real careful with me as I had so many medications of the psych type and although recovery is good now, it changed me, changed how I might react to other substances. So be aware doctors. Tread on the side of caution!" And......hi ho, hi ho @Happy2Heal Hello. I'm here too. I'll come and visit your introduction soon. You and quite a few others I know, and do love, from time spent at survivingantidepressants.org. Can't wait to have some cool discussions around whatever, and the meds, and getting off them, and gosh.......I am out of practice, but that was a fun time of my recovery......learning and finding different coping resources together. So so so very nice to be on the other side of the tapering and off the drugs. Alrighty. Let's see.......my Son is well, oh so proud of the man he's become. Present cat Sphinxy........cutie pie with just a few issues. Lol. They always have issues......the cats, but are great friends and companions.......very sensitive to how I feel and she's a great comfort. The house, my home.......well I'm ideating about the clearing clutter(I'm not a hoarder, just a bit clutter happy), and looking around, thinking on my next place. It can be an adventure. Might be a long adventure, lot's of winding roads. That's okay. No part time job but doing okay financially......it's just with health issues right now........I can't sign on anywhere. Too many appointments and of course hip replacement recovery will be a long haul, not horrible but I can't see starting something new until I'm on my way with adapting to the new hip. No great travel plans forthcoming yet I will get to Finland! Maybe Hawaii first or some Ocean, ? Mexico. Beautiful around here and thankfully I don't have to travel far to get into some fabulous nature. Thanks for the space. March 30Mar 30 Author Yes, for sure @Luke 10 years. Woohoo. Maybe I can say then that I am fully recovered. I hope so. I don't know how to celebrate but I'll come up with something and yes, will update again then. And thank you @Chippy Glad to have it behind me. Left hipster now. Hey, I'm going to try an put a title in after my user name. I'll let you guys know if I can't figure that out. Or let me know if you don't see something other than manymoredays: Introduction. I need to jazz it up a bit.....you know? I probably should title my Success Story too. Let me know if I have to PM you or something to create unique titles to my topics. Thanks for all you are doing here! Oh, if I could add more tags too. I was, at last count on over 30 psych drugs. Not all at once......lol. But geeze, I think I was on about every class of drugs out there used in Psychiatry. So ridic. Ugh. Done. Gone. Glad. That's. Over. I have been a bit lax in getting into FODMAPS and no time like the present. So glad though that that recovery is going well and have decreased my budesonide for the the microscopic colitis just a teensy bit, without my GI PA's knowledge. I will, ASAP let him know. It just was so darn easy to open up the 3 mg capsules and then split one in half so instead of 9 mg per day I now take just 7.5 mg. It should be an easy off when I get that nod to go ahead as I have not been on it for any length of time. Hoping to be completely off by 3 months since starting. The PA wanted to go 4 months......and hoping he'll respect my wishes. The original symptoms are history and I'm good and regular now, no gross diarrhea. He's a smart PA, but a stubborn one......fairly fixed. I could not even get him to send a simple letter to my ortho stating how he felt around me getting a hip replacement. He gave ME his thoughts but would not follow the program. My PCP over rode him, and included his input into how to potentially manage surgery and post op, keeping in mind that I might be at greater risk of blood clots and infection. And so far so good. Gosh and golly......why, why why we have to advocate for ourselves and research everything so much these days. What ever happened to the good old hippocratic oath of do no harm, treat patients like real people with voices, etc, etc. All good here. Hard to believe Easter is almost here. But happy and healthy is good. Nothing like a good surgery experience to help put all things in perspective in a good way. I do have a wonderful life and some great friends, family, and neighbors. Heartwarming. And then my present cat, Sphinxy watches over all.......and is just a great cat friend. May 30May 30 Author Hey there. I guess I'm good with titles and topics for now.Still doing well. I need to get to work on dietary changes to keep my gut in remission and healing.I came off the budesonide sooner than the GI doc wanted. He wanted to go 4 full months and I didn't. I didn't discuss with him. I do a follow up with him the week after next and will explain myself then. He seemed to be a decent doc so I'm not anticipating any major upsets on his part. I can and do communicate better with doctors. I was so mad for awhile I really could not. Good to be free er of resentments stemming from psychiatry and their drugs. And. Used my experience and knowledge of tapering to help. Get off the budesonide. Nice capsules with big beads, easily opened and transferred to gel caps. So, as it was only a couple of months of usage, I went from 9 mg to 7.5 mg to 6 mg to 4.5 mg to 3 mg to 1.5 mg to off. I stayed on 7.5 mg the longest while getting my hip replacement and beyond and then just did 3 to 4 days of each of the rest. And am now about a month off budesonide. Total usage just over 2 months. A steroid but supposedly targets the gut, different from systemic steroids but still a powerful drug no doubt. It worked well for my microscopic colitis, diagnosed by tissue sample after a colonoscopy. Doing good. Procrastinated long enough on low FODmaps and more attention to anti inflammatory foods, so wish me more than luck, just perseverance. on follow through with good ideas.Everything is pretty groovy right now and I've enjoyed eating, maybe too much of late so.....anyway...... And enjoying life. Sometimes too busy, too social and I have to take a day or so to recalibrate after a lot of activities. Just hunker down at home and in the garden......kind of what I think normies must do........listen to their bodies, minds, and spirits.......and act accordingly.Just rambling. Sure is something with Robert Kennedy Jr. and his take on psychiatry, psych drugs and all. I hope that all docs get some good training before they taper patients or deprescribe, and that it does not become a disaster. Someone's going to have to put out a boatload of continuing education for prescribers of psychoactives and only guessing.......that that may take awhile. 🙏 And Godspeed. And then, there will always be those who swear by their meds. I've adjusted to this now. That wasn't my story. Yet, I can allow them theirs. Their story, their choice. As long as they know where to access full information on what they ingest. I can always help with that if they want it. Surprised how many do not want it. And they do okay too. So anyway. I've come a long ways in acceptance.Love, peace, healing, and growth, mmt Edited May 30May 30 by manymoretodays Late 2023- gone to moderator emeritus status Started with psycho meds/psychiatric care circa 1988. May 31May 31 @manymoretodays good to hear from you, I'm glad you're doing well.Am I understanding correctly that this coming December, you'll be 10 years off of psychiatric drugs? Nothing I say is medical advice, it is simply my opinion. I am an anonymous person on an internet forum with no relevant qualifications other than being badly harmed by a drug. For all you know, I could be an idiot. You are making your own decisions and part of that is deciding how much to listen to my opinion, if at all. Perhaps you should consider this post an artistic work of fiction written for entertainment purposes.
