Doubt tylenol will do anything for this though: I’d say like 6.5-7/10 intensity headache… might trying ibuprofen I just don’t want this interfering with the recovery of withdrawal.. that’s why i asked is it okay to take

It depends on the person.

I feel out of my depth to advise you medically through a CT.

I have taken ibuprofen in WD once or twice and been fine. However, any OTC medication comes with a risk when your nervous system is very sensitive. I'd suggest you have a read of this thread before deciding whether to take anything: Medications, Supplements and Other Substances in Withdrawal

I’m not a medical professional and cannot offer medical advice. I am new to this journey and my thoughts are based only on my personal experience with psychiatric drugs. This is a peer site where we support each other on our taper/recovery journeys.

You aren't the guinea pig...most of us have cold turkeyed. If you put cold turkey in the search you will see. The site is full of suffering because of it... that is why you were strongly urged not to go down this path. Most of us have only found relief through a reinstatement.

You have the option of going back to your previous dose. If you are uncertain of accuracy, buy a better scale.

As previously mentioned, the site is here to prevent people going cold turkey and reducing harm.

@LostinCanada is it too late to reinstate? thinking about it but not reinstating the klonopin

my entire issue was I wasn’t finding relief at all on lexapro.. I assumed lexapro was causing the issues since I had more of a kindling reaction rather than obvious protracted withdrawal beforehand

I don’t get the point in reinstating a drug that wasnt giving relief.. if I was reinstating for relief it’d have to be the xanax I was taking

No... just be sure you don't do more than your last drop. Give it time. If within an hour or two you have a bad reaction...stop taking it.

I know you are concerned something has been medically wrong with you but it sounds like classic withdrawal. It isn't pleasant, it mimics everything. Last month I was getting a MRI because my withdrawal mimicked a stroke.

It's good to get checked out to settle your mind but when everything is negative, we have to accept it for what it is.

Let us know what you decide. ❤️🙏

Look at my thread and you'll see how cold turkey looks like

  • 2012 5-10mg escitalopram with very occasional benzo

  • 2022 - Bad reaction to ansium, escitalopram increased to 15mg temporarily until stable, and started the tapering process

  • June 2024 - Tapered off escitalopram and drug free

  • 19/02/2025 - 28/02/2025 - Triple therapy antibiotics for h pylori. Omeprazole, amoxicillin, clarithromicyn

  • 17/04/2025 - Reinstate escitalopram 5mg

  • ??/04/2025 - Trial of different PPIs for stomach issues (omeprazole, pantoprazole, lansoprazole and rabeprazole). I stick to rabeprazole.

  • ??/05/2025 - Trial of Mirtazapine 3,75 - 1mg for appetite and sleep, just take it for 3 non consecutive days and stop because it's too sedating.

  • ??/06/2025 - Trial of different stomach medications like cinitapiride, iberogast, alflorex. Get bad reactions so I stop them after a couple days.

  • 22/07/2025 - Taper escitalopram to 2,5mg for a week, last dose on the 22nd of July.

Current medications: Rabeprazole 10mg on alternating days.

@LostinCanada I just feel like reinstating is going to complicate it even more.. I want relief but that reinstatement isn’t going to give relief if the drug didnt help me in 2 months of use

If you want me to chase actual relief I’d probably get them to introduce a diff SSRI or xanax.. I mean i have to do something; I’m 24 I have a life to live

is this going to just be something i deal with for a couple years most likely?

@Rekonum you have not given any of the advice here enough time to make a difference and you added a benzo to the mix. It takes months to work out a sensitive CNS.

Withdrawal after a cold turkey gets worse for months. The peak can take 3-9 months or more. This is new site but was established from us coming from another site. It takes years to bounce back from a cold turkey...some 3 some 12. There is no mathematical equation or logic to it.

Reinstatement will never erase and completely undo a cold turkey but it cushions it. Time, natural healing and acceptance does the rest.

My first question is how much does 1.25 mg look like on your scale? Did you weigh 5 whole pills together to get an average weight? A 5 mg pill of lexapro weighs more than 5 mg because of fillers.

You need to reinstate at the 1.25 mg, it can go up from there but you don't want to kindle or cause a reaction.

Obviously your body and CNS is not happy but reinstatement now should correct that quickly.

should i reinstate the klonopin with it?

I think that makes sense because of how long you took it. Unfortunately this is a long slow process that none of us would have agreed to if we knew.

Whether or not the lexapro helped you with the initial reinstatement, your body is dependent on it now. You need to stabilize before starting a slow taper...we are talking at least 6 months.

Vomiting, bloating, nausea is very common...so is constipation. It is very important to get your bowels moving.

Also stay hydrated.

Our gut is majorly affected because that is where most of our serotonin is made.

Did you reinstate both drugs?

Try to breathe deeply and calm yourself if possible. Tell yourself that you are safe.

Is someone with you at home?

Good definitely don't add anything.

Being flushed and panicky won't harm you. Try to be calm. Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth.

How much did you reinstate?

Is there anything you can do to relax yourself...a warm bath, a cool shower?

If you need to go to the ER, don't hesitate. But try to analyze if this is worse than before when you took your pill.

No I don’t. Health anxiety is very common in dealing with this insanity. We seem to become so overly aware of our body and its functioning. If you are able to just allow panic to wash over you…don’t fight it…it is just extra adrenaline…you are safe. Work to relax all the muscles in your body.
