FireflyFyte: Tapering from a "fun" cocktail

Happy Friday, all!

Started my Gabapentin taper exactly a week ago and happy to share that I have not had any noticeable withdrawal symptoms. If this continues, will make another 5% decrease next Friday. Have a nagging feeling that this taper will prove more difficult than my Olanzapine taper but dedicated to not rushing the process so will do holds if/when needed.

Officially jumped from Olanzapine at 0.15mg on May, 29 2025 🎉

Gabapentin taper: 3.20.26 400mg -> 180mg (dosing error 🫣) 7.1.26 -> 162mg 8.3.26 -> 146mg

Current medications:

  • 40mg Prozac

  • 146mg Gabapentin

Previous medications:

  • Latuda, Ativan, Vyvanse, Zoloft, and so many more that I can't remember...

that's good to hear, make sure you keep it at a comfortable rate, if after some time of tapering you still have 0 withdrawal effects from the process, you might want to decide to go for a larger percentage each time (with small increases to the percentage, not extreme ones), obviously with careful monitoring and listening to the body, and remembering that the lowest doses have the most effect.

Current Supplements: Morning: Aloe Vera Gels. Night: 6mg melatonin and 133mg magnesium glycinate. Taking Omega 3 as needed to calm dyskinesia or over stimulation..

Current Medications: Mirtazapine, Lasea (lavender oil) before bed.

------------------------------------------

Tapering: Mirtazapine 15mg, (went compounded) 13.5mg 08/May/2025, 12.1mg 10/July/2025, 15/July/2025 15mg (half tablet), 26/July/2025 14.35mg (moved to dry cutting method) ), 03/Aug/2025 14.6mg, 24/Nov/2025 14.47mg, 29/Jan/2026 14.35mg

Note: Had a lot of issue with degradation with different cutting times and compounded pharmacy which caused withdrawals and a more sensitive nervous system.

Hi @FireflyFyte! I am glad to hear you are doing well today! I hope that you continue to have no/minimal WD symptoms. I read some of your SAD forum linked above and wanted to ask you about your experience with hydroxyzine. I was prescribed a low dose of it last year and had tried it a few times for panic but I had mixed results of fogginess and almost thought it may have made my anxiety worse but I honestly was not sure. Just wanted to see if you had any thoughts on it!

Hope is Healing.

Healing from severe separation anxiety, panic, and OCD stemming from childhood.

2011-2013 Zoloft 50mg, no noticeable improvement in symptoms from taking it.

~2015 Luvox 25mg, no noticeable improvement in symptoms from taking it.

~2017-2022 Prozac 10mg increasing up to 40mg, no noticeable improvement in symptoms from taking it.

~2022 tapered off Luvox from 25mg to 0mg successfully. YAY!!! No major withdrawal symptoms.

2023-2025 tapered Prozac from 40mg to 10mg

            * Prozac 40mg -> 35mg 3/2023-5/2023
            * Prozac 35mg -> 30mg 5/2023-6/2023
            * Prozac 30mg -> 25mg 6/2023-7/2023
            * Prozac 25mg -> 15mg 8/2023-12/2023; Married & travelled out of country early in this period, I was mostly stable and happy.
            * Prozac 10mg  from 12/2023-11/2025; After 12/23 under extreme academic stress for 3-6 months. Biggest crash in unbearable anxiety, panic, and intrusive thoughts beginning in October 2025 after taking molybdenum as a supplement recommended by my doctor. It seems the molybdenum triggered an immediate bad reaction in the brain.
            * Prozac 20mg  from 11/2025-2/2026; November 2025 increased due to symptoms, no noticeable improvement in symptoms from increase.
            * Prozac 20mg -> 10mg 2/26/2026 - 3/8/2026; No symptoms 5 days, days 6-9 bad WD, day 9+ improvement in mood and intrusive thoughts.

            * Prozac 10mg  -> 0mg 3/8/2026; Bad withdraw symptoms starting at Day 17 off 10mg.

Intolerant to Ativan, Xanax, (and oddly Oxycodone) from a young age. All of which give me severe tremors and panic episodes.

  1. Yes, thank you, know about the hyperbolic curve and will be sure to see how I am feeling when I get lower in my dose. Thankfully, when I tapered Olanzapine did not have any significant changes to how I was feeling at lower doses or when I jumped. Will be elated if my experience with Gabapentin is similar but know it is not a guarantee.

I don't think it really helped me or hurt me but if you are noticing fogginess or increased anxiety, you might not tolerate it well and think the least amount of changes we make to medications or supplements the better esepcially during tapering and healing.

I so hope it's this way again for you! Glad to hear that so far, it's all right.

Polydrugged for cPTSD:

  • After a decade on thousands of mg of gabapentin a day, I've made my way down over the years to less than 5mL
  • Started at 100mg wellbutrin, down to .01% of that
  • 25mg seroquel for sleep

In my rearview:

  • Successfully tapered off buspar
  • Cold-turkeyed off adderall (0/10, do not recommend)
  • Before that: so many pills, spent years being cycled through meds faster than a triathlete who can't wait to go for a run (also do not recommend)

So, not sure if I should blame my AuDHD, potential peri-menopause, medication-induced brain fog, and/or the general stress of life and the world but realized this morning that I have only been taking a dose of 90mg of Gabapentin twice a day instead of 190mg 😳

I was supposed to take 90mg from one tablet by making a water solution and then take the remaining 100mg in another tab but have just made the water solution, drank that, and entirely ignored the need for another tablet.

It's been about 10 days of this without any noticeable withdrawal symptoms so going to stay at the 180mg/day for a few months to ensure no fall out before dropping, more reasonably, but will updose if I notice a decline. I did go from 900mg -> 600mg without issue so might skate on this one as well but not thrilled to realize that I was playing with fire.

Yip, we're only human.  Maybe it's the lower doses where you'll start feeling the decrease?  Have you felt much with the previous drops of 10%?  Maybe you won't feel much in the way of WD.  Gosh, never know.  Sounds like a sound plan.

And hope symptoms are minimal!

I'm doing well. Got my hip replaced and well into the recovery there. That's all gone smooth. And. Almost at 100 days complete nicotine freedom which is huge. No more cigs, no more NRT's...........freedom.

So good, so far with your Gabapentin oops. Any yes, great idea to hold tight now and them resume the taper when ready.

My brother had to do gabapentin twice now for back/nerve pain. Short term, and at 2 months on did a fast taper per his doc. And. Has. Done. Great. I think he got a lot out of acupuncture as well. Still. For you. Going forward. Best to continue with the 10% protocol while living your life.

I will say that having to taper my last psych drugs and coming to terms with that they actually made me so much worse.....psychologically, spiritually, emotionally, and physically HAS more definitely been such an asset for all that comes after.

Life is good right now. I would not change a thing. I'm thinking of maybe doing line dancing and maybe an art class of some kind via community education classes that are around here. Oh, and my PT job. Finally. Lol. I hope becomes a reality, even if for just a little while. I'm thinking about 40 hours a month. Not sure what I'll do but may put some feelers and applications out there.

Hope this finds you well enough, strong enough, and in connection with the universe in a good way.

Love, peace, healing, and growth,

mmt

1 year and a little over one month since I jumped off of Olanzapine at 0.15mg after a taper that took around 2 1/2 years. My initial withdrawal from Latuda and resulting hospital stay where I was put on a cocktail of pysch meds feels like a lifetime ago even though it was less than 4 years ago now. Crazy.

Life is hectic between autistic burnout, a demanding job, medically complex dogs, and perimenopause but am grateful that I have access to more emotions now and feel more myself as I continue to taper off my psych medications. At my highest, was on 5mg of Olanzapine, 40mg of Prozac, and 900mg of Gabapentin while today I am at 40mg of Prozac and 180mg of Gabapentin and look forward to saying that I am on none within the next 2-4 years depending on how I handle the tapers.

Well done, I'm so glad that you feel you are making progress. Great job on the Gabapentin taper as well, it can be a nightmare to come off. Take your time, take good care. I am also autistic, ADHD and perimenopause and it's a tough road for us! Thanks for the inspiration today.

November 2024 Elvanse for ADHD. Anxiety and jaw clenching, stopped after 4 weeks. Felt fine.

January 2025 Medikinet XL

Made me depressed and suicidal so stopped after 3 weeks. Felt fine

March 2025 Concerta XL Made me depressed and suicidal so stopped after 2 weeks. Felt fine

April-May 2025 Amfexa and Methylphenidate instant release, both only worked for an hour so stopped.  Felt fine.

June 2025 Atomoxetine started slow taper. Immediate hot flushing and feeling sluggish.

July-September 2025 Tapered up to 70mg Atomoxetine. Constipation, insomnia, muscle spasms, weird thoughts, mood swings, night sweats, hot flushes, brain fog, dizziness etc

October 2025 rapid taper off Atomoxetine. I also had a GA for shoulder surgery the same week I finished meds.

Ongoing symptoms ever since, but now also trouble swallowing, difficulty passing urine, muscle twitches, depersonalisation, heavy limbs, emotional blunting, apathy, feeling "wired" and robotic, PGAD.

New symptoms February 2026: Nausea and burning head

Supplements: B12, folate and Vit D as all were bordering on deficient.

Bad reactions to CBD oil, Mag glycinate, Mag L.Threonate and Fish Oil

Down to 146mg of Gabapentin. Taper remains, thankfully, uneventful.

Watching the Lindsay Clancy trial live and the defense is questioning her psychiatrist. While I am not shocked that they bounced her across different dosages, encouraged going cold turkey from Zoloft, and added and removed medications with what appears to be little thought; I am hoping that others who have not experienced this directly are beginning to learn how common it is especially here in the United States.

While I am not shocked that they bounced her across different dosages, encouraged going cold turkey from Zoloft, and added and removed medications with what appears to be little thought; I am hoping that others who have not experienced this directly are beginning to learn how common it is especially here in the United States.

Ive not seen anything about this, I must take a look at some point.

I’m not a medical professional and cannot offer medical advice. I only offer my thoughts as support. Please speak to your health practitioner about your care. This is a peer site where we support each other on our taper/recovery journeys.

It's a case currently on trial in Massachusetts, United States.

A mother, Lindsay Clancy, is accused of killing her three, young children and then trying to kill herself. Soon after, it was revealed that she was in and out of the hospital and on an overwhelming amount of medications and changes to those meds.

Here is a current breakdown of her medication history leading up to the incident - https://www.patriotledger.com/story/news/local/2026/07/27/lindsay-clancy-was-prescribed-several-types-of-psychiatric-medications-lawsuits-say-trial-children/91062568007/

Officially jumped from Olanzapine at 0.15mg on May, 29 2025 🎉

Gabapentin taper: 3.20.26 400mg -> 180mg (dosing error 🫣) 7.1.26 -> 162mg 8.3.26 -> 146mg

Current medications:

  • 40mg Prozac

  • 146mg Gabapentin

Previous medications:

  • Latuda, Ativan, Vyvanse, Zoloft, and so many more that I can't remember...

Jeepers ... looking at that med list and timeline one wonders how anyone can believe psychiatry is anything but highly paid twits throwing **** at the wall.

Getting down there on the gabapentin! 👍

Olanzapine (5mg) started June 2023 - This is the only drug I'm currently taking. I haven't used any other psych drugs.

After 4 weeks dropped to 2.5mg for 5 days then dropped to 1.25mg for 3 days (all on doctor's orders) - Severe withdrawal symptoms commenced. I then took a single dose of 3.75mg, then went to 2.5mg on July 19/23 and held.

I lack hubris and read academic literature - so it's safe to say I'm not a medical professional. Nothing I say should be taken as medical advice.

Absolutely shocking but not surprising. How awful.
