Sonia2: Protracted withdrawal citalopram since 11 months off

Featured Replies

@Sonia2 I'm sorry to hear you've been having a difficult time since taking antibiotics. Hopefully it will be relatively short-lived.

As you say, you've experienced it before, so hopefully you'll come out of it soon.

Nothing I say is medical advice, it is simply my opinion. I am an anonymous person on an internet forum with no relevant qualifications other than being badly harmed by a drug. For all you know, I could be an idiot. You are making your own decisions and part of that is deciding how much to listen to my opinion, if at all.

  • @Fullhealing, @Marina Thank you both, it's the warmest day of the year so far and I've had to go to bed with my socks and cardigan on to get warm, really weird! Hope you're both doing ok. x

Hi, I came across a UK website for withdrawal coaching after reading my message from @Chippy , thank you, regarding trying a withdrawal coach. It's Barbara Bell Coaching, maybe someone here has tried

Hi guys,

Having a really rough week following a course of amoxicillin for a gum infection, weird dreams, dizziness, anxiety, feeling wired, lethargy to name a few. I seem to cry a lot, some of it self-pity I know, also if I see or hear anything upsetting on tv. I don't watch much tv and when I do it has to be on my tablet, can't watch a big screen. I guess it's a setback, I've experienced this before after antibiotics. The 'what ifs' have been creeping in but I should know better from experience.

I was hoping for improvement after quitting citalopram a year last January at O.3mg. It doesn't sound like much of a dose but I now realise it was too high a dose to jump off at. Reducing caffeine has also ramped my symptoms up, there seems to be one thing after another.

Sending best wishes to all, and to Luke and Chippy who have been going throughout It too from what I have read. Upwards and onwards I guess. xx🙂🙏

Hey Sonia I am sorry to hear. Unfortunately trying to avoid these things in WD is best. I know it can be hard, and sometimes you just have to do it. I hope things settle for you soon.

Yes that dose was a bit high to jump off at, I think unfortunately people get down that low and just think, it's tiny and come off, personally getting to 0.01mg and considering a long hold at that dose isn't a bad idea before stopping to be safe. But that's the past. Your body is incredible and it will put all this right for you. Just time unfortunately. I do think it helps if we can avoid all the usual substances often mentioned on here and listed in our intro post template new members.

Hope today is better for you xxx

Hi @Sonia2 , how frustrating to experience such a harsh reaction to something that is seemingly innocuous. Sorry to hear you're suffering so much. Hopefully this current phase will pass quickly - at least you're aware why so I do hope you're not spiralling too much. All we seem to do is 'wait it out', it's unfair, frustrating and tedious, but ultimately is all we can do.

Hang on in there, it'll pass.

Hi guys, I'm feeling low lately, depressed, tearful, anxious, head pressure, brain fog since heatwave, dizziness, numbness and tingling in hands and feet, stiff aching neck, backache, all scary stuff and all come together.

I have had some setbacks over recent weeks, the antibiotics, four day migraine and the dreaded heatwave, all have taken their toll. If I thought going back on antidepressants would take it all away I would not hesitate.

I plan on seeing my doctor who does not accept that I could still be in or withdrawal but I will request a blood check again, I think I had them done about six months ago. Maybe talk about therapy. Can't do an awful lot in a ten minute appointment.

I'm 17/18 months out from stopping, I was hoping for more positivity than this. Anyway, best wishes all.🙂🙏

I am sorry to read Sonia.

Unfortunately all these things can set us back a little in WD, I think you are wise to sit this out and let things settle, these drugs are not the answer and what you are experiencing is WD injury so they would likley make it all worse.

Good to get the blood work done, and nothing wrong with a little therapy, maybe consider speaking to a WD coach instead who understands what you are going through, as your issues are WD related, normal therapy often isn't effective. Understanding you need to avoid second fear and engage radical acceptance is the key line of defence.

I know it feels like you have made little progress, but this is not an uncommon thing, in reality in the background lots of healing is happening even if the rewards are no there as yet they are coming! xx

@Sonia2 it's worth getting checked and ruling other health conditions out, but everything you're experiencing can be cause by withdrawal, even if your doctor just says no.

Hi, I came across a UK website for withdrawal coaching after reading my message from @Chippy , thank you, regarding trying a withdrawal coach. It's Barbara Bell Coaching, maybe someone here has tried her?

barbarabellcoaching.co.uk

I haven't booked a session but the rates are comparatively very reasonable.

However, the reason I mention it is because there is a link to her blog which contains a lot of encouraging information about what we are going through, also if you click on the 'More' tab there is access to lots of encouraging video shorts.

I found it helpful, hope someone else does too. 🙂

Sonia2, sorry to hear you are having a wave, and I see you got a bit of relief,, early on I my system would go a bit haywire dealing with family issues, especially when it felt with health, maybe I would worry to much, good to see you reading the Claire Weeks' book, I had that one early on to read and yes it did help me. I to still get headaches and sometimes they can be intolerable, but I manage, with heating pads on the back of neck, or magnesium oil on my neck, or maybe cool compresses on for head, and of course silence is always good. Healing is happening when your in the worst wave, and when that window comes it will be a glorious relief. Stay strong, your doing great.😊

@Bernadette Thank you for your kind words and reassurance. I'm sorry to read about your citalopram withdrawal journey but happy for you that you get good windows. I can't really say that I experience windows of any length of time, for me I just get moments or maybe an hour here and there but these are few and far between. I'm still waiting for just one day when I am symptom free to be able to do normal things. I always have something going on. I haven't tried magnesium oil on my neck for headache, thanks for the tip. I find splashing cold water on my face helps my headaches but not my migraines. So nice of you to respond to my post, I hope you find permanent relief very soon. Best wishes.😊🙏

Hi, I came across a UK website for withdrawal coaching after reading my message from @Chippy , thank you, regarding trying a withdrawal coach. It's Barbara Bell Coaching, maybe someone here has tried her?

barbarabellcoaching.co.uk

Hi @Sonia2 - sorry to hear you're not making the progress you wished for, it's such a brutal thing to go through and you're immensely awesome for getting this far - well done you! I also wanted to thank you for sharing the coaching link, I may give that a go myself. Certainly wouldn't hurt to speak to someone who knows what we're going through.

Claire Weeks is also a good shout, I may revisit that again too.

I can't really give you any more advice than what you already know, but sometimes it's just good to know we're not in this alone. This is a great community and is full of reassurances and sagacious advice :-)

Take care of yourself and hope you perk up very soon

xx

@Mamgu Thank you for your continued support. It been a long haul for us both, we've had our setbacks but somehow we have survived them. 💪

I hope all is well with you and your rib injuries have healed.
