It may have to do with your PPIs you are taking. During WD, many things we used can turn on us.

This is what a search says:

Both famotidine and omeprazole can independently cause dry mouth, and taking them together can potentially worsen this side effect.

Why the Combination Increases the Risk

• Shared Side Effect Profile: Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI), and famotidine is an H2 blocker. While they reduce stomach acid through different mechanisms, both list dry mouth (xerostomia) as a known, documented side effect. Taking them simultaneously doubles the likelihood of experiencing this symptom.

• Delayed vs. Immediate Onset: Famotidine's side effects can sometimes take a few weeks of continuous use to fully manifest, whereas omeprazole can cause a reduction in saliva production that persists throughout therapy.

General Strategies to Manage Dry Mouth

If your doctor has instructed you to take both medications, you can manage the dry mouth by:

• Staying hydrated: Take frequent, small sips of water throughout the day.

• Stimulating saliva: Use sugar-free gum or lozenges.

• Avoiding irritants: Limit caffeine, alcohol, and dry or highly spicy foods, which can exacerbate the dry feeling.

• Practicing strict oral hygiene: A lack of saliva increases the risk of cavities, so regular brushing and flossing are essential.

I have been taking omerpazole and famotadine for years. The dry mouth is recent in the last few months gradually getting worse.

I think Lic has made a good observation.

I can't do that anymore. My dry mouth is too bad to manage. I am drinking water and going to the toilet all day now everyday. I am even waking up multiple times in the night now to go to the toilet. Even though it's risky I need to keep trying the diabetes medications because I cannot lose weight when I'm in this much pain. My binge eating is now out of control and I am getting take aways every day. I need the dry mouth to go away.

You can reverse type 2 diabetes with diet but it requires a significant desire to succeed. The easiest way is to cut out all carbs.

Whatever the case, you need to get your blood sugars under control as soon as possible.

Diabetes is a dangerous condition when unmanaged.

There are healthy meal delivery services, if you are buying takeaways daily.

I took go get supplements, the same one for 2.5 years and then it turned on me and it was giving me extreme gut issues, nausea, painful bloating, really debilitating. As soon as I stopped the ginger supplement it turned around almost overnight. This supplements and other drugs are full of additives that we can become sensitive to in withdrawal.

But it's up to you. I personally think that would be a better route, reducing the PPI 25% a week starting with the famodine, then starting a new drug that you already reacted to.

@Erimus is also correct. Diet is huge through withdrawal without the complication of diabetes.

I have to take a diabetes medication. I just had a blood test yesterday and got the results today. My blood glucose levels are dangerously high and I cannot avoid taking something now. I'll try to be careful to avoid kindling, and I'll stop if it's clearly kindling and try a different one. But I don't have a choice now. If I don't take something the diabetes could cause permanent damage.

Even though I've lost so much weight (I'm 145.9kg now) it seems I've run out of time.

Day 1 and this drug made my skin all burning and tingly everywhere. I cannot keep taking it. The worst part is my mum, carers and doctors all fighting me because "1 day isn't enough to tell anything".

It took less than 1 day to make my skin burning and painful everywhere.

What's funny is despite my diabetes being a "medical emergency", outside of when I took the metformin and now this, the electric shocks have been stable and I have not had burning tingling skin all over.

I am sick and tired of everyone invalidating my experiences and struggles just because it hasn't been enough time for them. They refuse to acknowledge my own unique reactions and difficulties with medications.

I will not take any drugs that do this to me.

I'm sorry you're having a really difficult time.

We aren't doctors and there's very little we can do in terms of giving advice with non-WD health conditions. For example, my knowledge of diabetes is very limited.

All I'd really suggest is finding a doctor who is reasonable and willing to consider your concerns about reacting adversely to diabetes drugs and is willing to provide closer monitoring and advice based on this risk.

Nothing I say is medical advice, it is simply my opinion. I am an anonymous person on an internet forum with no relevant qualifications other than being badly harmed by a drug. For all you know, I could be an idiot. You are making your own decisions and part of that is deciding how much to listen to my opinion, if at all.

Perhaps you should consider this post an artistic work of fiction written for entertainment purposes.

November 2024 Elvanse for ADHD. Anxiety and jaw clenching, stopped after 4 weeks. Felt fine.

January 2025 Medikinet XL

Made me depressed and suicidal so stopped after 3 weeks. Felt fine

March 2025 Concerta XL Made me depressed and suicidal so stopped after 2 weeks. Felt fine

April-May 2025 Amfexa and Methylphenidate instant release, both only worked for an hour so stopped.  Felt fine.

June 2025 Atomoxetine started slow taper. Immediate hot flushing and feeling sluggish.

July-September 2025 Tapered up to 70mg Atomoxetine. Constipation, insomnia, muscle spasms, weird thoughts, mood swings, night sweats, hot flushes, brain fog, dizziness etc

@EDP6893

Will they send you a dietitian to help with meal plans?

Can you cut out all liquid drinks except water, no juice, soda, smoothies etc? I hate the taste of water but I can tolerate it if I just put a small amount of fruit juice in it.

Are you able to get a treadmill and walk for 10-15 minutes after eating?

Manage stress through deep breathing and stretching.

You have done a great job drop a lot of weight.... keep doing what you can.

What are your blood sugar numbers?

Do you freeze your carbohydrates? It turns them into resistant starches.

Search:

Freezing starchy carbohydrates changes their internal structure into resistant starch, which slows down digestion and results in a smaller, slower rise in blood sugar.

How It Works

• Starch Retrogradation: Cold temperatures cause starch molecules in foods like bread, rice, pasta, and potatoes to reorganize into a tighter, rigid structure.

• Resistant Starch Creation: This new structure resists being broken down quickly in your small intestine, behaving more like dietary fiber.

• Lower Glycemic Impact: Because the body digests the carbohydrate slower, glucose enters the bloodstream gradually rather than causing a sharp spike. Toasting the carbohydrates (such as bread) straight from frozen can increase this benefit even further.

I am supposed to be seeing a dietitian but it's hard to get an appointment.

I cannot change my diet that much, or do exercise on a treadmill. I'm too ill. I also hate breathing exercises as they always trigger me and make me feel worse.

Blood glucose has been 21.7 and 19 recently.

I'm waiting a week before trying dapagliflozin at a much lower dose (a 1/4 of a 5mg pill), to give my brain some time to recover. But it's really scary seeing my mouth become more and more unbearably dry, and even patches of my skin becoming dry and rough, spreading like a cancer. The neuropathy also really hurts. I feel like I'm going to die.

I hope it won't last as long as the metformin, even though it feels as bad, because I did only take it for 2 days, unlike 5 days for the metformin.

If the extremely low dose also triggers me then I'll know for the future that any amount of the same drug that triggered you will trigger you again.

Electric shocks, burning painful itchy skin has been agony. I'm scared it will never go away now.

I cannot take any diabetes medications. I can't have this happening again.

I don't believe it will last forever, sounds like a temporary reaction ❣️

Thanks.

Also I take back what I said yesterday. I have to find a diabetes drug that doesn't trigger me. Because the dry mouth and other issues from the diabetes are also unbearable.

have you tried to manage your diabetes through diet instead of drugs? or perhaps other more natural means.

The issue is my dry mouth is so bad it makes it feel impossible to manage my binge eating disorder. But I probably very likely could get rid of the diabetes if I lost enough weight.

this is the main issue, the binge eating, you have to do one thing or another, we already know drugs are just at best case scenario manage things, and at worse case scenario harm.

I don't see how dry mouth is a reason to binge eat or something that would drive you to eat, just my perspective tho.
