And I hope despite this set back, I can still recover from all my withdrawals, including these new ones. I hope I can do this and it's not too late to reverse everything; the diabetes, the back pain, the morbid obesity, all the withdrawals, etc...It is absolutely true that:you can recover from withdrawalhealthier habits such as improved diet can have a large, positive impact on your health and wellbeing overallFor example, if you eat better, you might feel a bit better. This might then make it easier to do light activity regularly, such as walking, which then leads to further improvements in your health and wellbeing, and you gain momentum with it all.I think it's helpful, to break it down into much smaller, achievable goals in the short term. For example, you might try something like:"I will not have any takeaways this week, and I will go for a walk every day that I'm not in too much pain, even if I don't really want to"The big results and goals can be daunting to go after, but they come from make sure the small steps like this are happening consistently. June 4Jun 4 Author Things are much worse than I realized. It's been almost a week since I stopped the metformin but the disgusting taste, nausea and burning skin have not gone away at all. I needed to lose a lot of weight to get rid of my diabetes as fast as possible (as well as all the back pain, the general discomfort of being so obese, the fatigue), and the only way I know how to do this is to have foods that taste nice to me that I can use to cope mentally, instead of the take aways. But my taste has been ruined. There now isn't a single food or drink I enjoy. Even the new foods I'd found recently. Everything tastes the same disgusting vile blood like metallic taste.I looked it up and it says I have dysgeusia which is nerve damage of your taste buds. For people with autism like me it can take 3 months to over a year to recover! All this from just 5 days of metformin, a drug that I had in the past and had no effect on me back then.I'm never going to lose weight now! Everything has been ruined! June 4Jun 4 @EDP6893 I’m sorry this has happened, I know you were starting to do better with food and this feels like a really hard setback. I would try not to get too hung up on the timeline for recovery — as always, it’s possible that you’ll get better faster than the timelines you’re finding online, and even if it takes a while for full recovery I’m sure there will be progress along the way. As for the food, maybe when you’re feeling up to it you could spend some time looking for and practicing healthier recipes that you think you’ll enjoy once your taste buds have recovered? That way once you can enjoy food again you’ll have a range of different options you can prepare for yourself. I hope you start feeling better soon. June 5Jun 5 @EDP6893 I hope these new symptoms settle soon, it might take some time for your body to reset having stopped the metformin, hopefully they go completely in time. Keep going!!!!Sorry to hear you are having a difficult few days again, time will settle all of this for you, so typical of this process to be up and down and make us feel like we are not improving. I’m not a medical professional and cannot offer medical advice. I only offer my thoughts as support. Please speak to your health practitioner about your care. This is a peer site where we support each other on our taper/recovery journeys. If you are from the UK please make sure you fill in a 'Yellow Card' report for the MHRA. It is you doing your bit to help make a difference. Please take the time to do it today 🙂 https://yellowcard.mhra.gov.ukFor US members details here.
