I know others that did not do well on it.A search says:The most common side effects of the diabetes medication metformin are gastrointestinal issues, such as diarrhea, nausea, and gas, which typically improve over time. While the drug is generally considered very safe, it can cause more serious complications in rare instances. The side effects of metformin are categorized below by frequency and severity.Common Side EffectsThese symptoms affect up to 25% to 75% of patients. They usually appear when first starting the medication or after a dose increase, and they often fade within a few weeks.Diarrhea: Loose or watery stools.Nausea and vomiting: Feeling sick to your stomach.Gas and bloating: Excess air and abdominal fullness.Stomach ache: Abdominal cramps or discomfort.Loss of appetite: Reduced desire to eat.Metallic taste: A persistent, unusual taste in the mouth.Headache: Mild to moderate head pain.Long-Term Side EffectsTaking metformin over a long period can lead to nutritional deficiencies.Vitamin B12 deficiency: Metformin can interfere with how your body absorbs vitamin B12. Over time, this can lead to anemia or peripheral neuropathy (numbness, tingling, or pain in the hands and feet).Weight loss: Many patients experience modest weight loss, which is often considered a positive side benefit rather than an adverse effect.Rare but Serious Side EffectsThese conditions are medical emergencies and require immediate medical attention.Lactic Acidosis: Metformin carries a boxed warning for lactic acidosis, a dangerous buildup of lactic acid in the blood. This is highly rare and mostly occurs in individuals with severe kidney disease, liver problems, or heavy alcohol use. Symptoms include extreme fatigue, muscle pain, trouble breathing, feeling cold, or a sudden slow heartbeat.Hypoglycemia (Low Blood Sugar): Metformin rarely causes low blood sugar when taken on its own. Trying to deal with diabetes naturally is always the best way. Here is some general information that might help. Choosing just one thing and working on that might make a difference, such as increasing your exercise either walking or lifting weights every day. Key lifestyle strategies include:Weight Management: Losing a modest amount of weight (often just 5% to 7% of your total body weight) can significantly lower blood sugar and improve insulin sensitivity.Nutritional Adjustments: Focus on eating whole foods, fiber-rich vegetables, and lean proteins while minimizing added sugars and highly processed carbohydrates.Physical Activity: Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise (like brisk walking or swimming) per week, along with strength training two to three times a week.Consistent Monitoring: Routinely tracking your glucose with a meter or Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) helps you understand how different foods and activities impact your body. Trying to deal with diabetes naturally is always the best way. Here is some general information that might help. Choosing just one thing and working on that might make a difference, such as increasing your exercise either walking or lifting weights every day.Key lifestyle strategies include:Weight Management: Losing a modest amount of weight (often just 5% to 7% of your total body weight) can significantly lower blood sugar and improve insulin sensitivity.Nutritional Adjustments: Focus on eating whole foods, fiber-rich vegetables, and lean proteins while minimizing added sugars and highly processed carbohydrates.Physical Activity: Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise (like brisk walking or swimming) per week, along with strength training two to three times a week.Consistent Monitoring: Routinely tracking your glucose with a meter or Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) helps you understand how different foods and activities impact your body. The shocks started with stopping the daridorexant in april where I also got the genital burning withdrawal from. Then got worse once I started metformin, and got worse again once I quit. Edited June 2Jun 2 by EDP6893 Late 2020 stop Effexor 350mg in 2 months by psychiatrist. It's been 4 days now.), especially getting new withdrawals with painful sensations throughout my body, but I feel like and imagine that even if I got a take away it wouldn't make the withdrawal or pain better. It'd be just as bad. Just a temporary distraction. What I really want is to recover and get better. And I hope despite this set back, I can still recover from all my withdrawals, including these new ones. I hope I can do this and it's not too late to reverse everything; the diabetes, the back pain, the morbid obesity, all the withdrawals, etc...
