February 8Feb 8 Hi everyone and thank you to Luke and Chippy for making this site. It's nice to be here. I am down to 2.2 mirt but holding for several weeks due to a bad case of covid. It knocked me on my butt for sure. Nervous system is still a bit frazzled so I'll wait a week or so before I cut again. The taper was going well before this. At some point I will link my SA thread when I can figure it out and I'm up to it. Be well. Marie. February 9Feb 9 Congratulations and welcome! You're an inspiration to me as I have several meds to get off of. Looking forward to more from you. January 2001: klonopin, depakote, wellbutrin. Was experiencing overload from: getting married, selling my house, quitting my job, taking care of one grandmother as my other one died. All in the same year. Asked Dr. for support and got called "mixed bi-polar" cuz I didn't have real bi polar symptoms. AND I ACCEPTED THAT. UGH Always felt sick on the meds so I would taper off. Then I would get EXTREME insomnia which I tolerated for several months before I would reinstate some combo. I've done this about 8 times. I'm extremely sensitive so I take really low doses. Still I feel sick. Currently tapering off 1 mg paroxetine. Started at 20. Also on prasozin, 1 mg, Trileptal, 75, seroquel 50.5/6/26 now on 2 mg paroxetine.7/15/26 1.4 mg paroxetine9/24/26 1 mg paroxetine
February 9Feb 9 Hi @Mariewe’re so glad to have you here! Amazing to see you’ve already completed two tapers and so close to finishing a third. It’s always wise to be patient and not rush things especially after an illness, and having a heightened/sensitive nervous system. No doubt you’ll bounce back soon and be on your way to further tapering down. Good stuff. March 2017 - ADR to Prochlorperazine (Stemetil) treatment because of vertigo & vestibular dysfunction.December 2017/January 2018 - started Sertraline (Zoloft) @ 25mg, then 50mg after 4 weeks.March/April 2018 - went from 50 milligrams to 100mg, and stabilised. 2021 - experienced tachyphylaxis (poop out) and went from 100mg to 200 mg. Was neurotoxic for 7 months before going back to 100mg next day. May 2023 - prescribed Agomelatine & Omeprazole to go alongside Sertraline.October 2023 - cold turkey off Agomelatine and Omeprazole, and cut SSRI from 100-50mg, withdrawal began 4 days later.December 2023 - was cross tapered from Sertraline and onto Venlafaxine XR @ 37.5mg increased to 75mg 4 weeks later.July 2024 - tapered off Venlafaxine XR 75mg over 4 weeks to completely heal from protracted withdrawal, been drug free since this period.December 2024 - had a brutal setback from antibiotic + antiviral use. Took 4-5 months to recover to my "normal" baseline.
February 9Feb 9 Author Hi Jack. Thanks for stopping by. It was quite an experience getting through all of the tapers. I had to be determined and tough, and I was. I feel so much better without all the meds floating around my brain. I will rest my brain for a while. It feels like I have some brain fog from the virus. Looks like you are drug free, congrats. I am over covid mostly but still have have dry, itchy eyes. My doc gave me antiobiotic drops that help. One thing that rattles me a bit is the I have flashing lights in the corner of my right eye. It happens only in dark rooms. I've read it's a symptom of covid and also mirt. I am thinking about seeing an eye doctor. Good news when I saw my regular doctor and after getting weighed I lost 18 pounds since October. A few pounds were lost during the month of covid but the rest were just CICO/light fasting. Next week I cut .02 to get me down to .20 mg mirt. How is your taper going? Marie. I believe I did 5% to 10% a month at higher doses, then 5% lower doses. It's been a while. I made a critical error and jumped off at 4 mg. I had to reinstate at 6 weeks, since that's when w/d hit me. Reinstatement did not work that well. I think I reinstated .5 mg. Took a long time to get off at that point. Not sure of the end dose, probably less than .1. February 18Feb 18 Good to meet you @Marie! I am in the beginning of my dreaded Mirtazapine taper but posts like yours gives me hope! I also have the same as you in terms of vision, funny enough I had it yesterday in the bathroom. It felt like lots of little lights, crossing my vision diagonally, I decided to just ignore and say to myself ‘huh, that was a weird one’ and today it hasn’t come back! Hope it goes away for you too. I also hope you feel from COVID soon 🙂 I can’t wait until I can start my taper, right now I am just rolling thru the windows and waves. February 18Feb 18 Author Hello. I just got back from the ophthalmologist. He was very thorough and had several exams. My vision test was very good at 20/25 vision even with mirt blurriness. Pictures were taken inside/outside of both eyes. The doc diagnosed me with posterior vitreous detachment PVD. This happens as you age the vitreous gel that lines the inside of your eye separates and you can get eye flashes. He told me it goes away and mentioned that I also had this in my left. People can get this and not see flashes apparently, but some do. Doc said it will not affect your vision. I have a follow-up appt. for a recheck. I have read a number of mirt and people get these eye flashes. I suspect dry eyes caused by mirt and the dryness that increased a lot during covid. I lost an additional 18 pounds in the past four months. I feel much, much better. Twelve years of polydrugging was hard. Tonight I will cut .02 mg mirt that will bring me down to .20 mg. Now the fun begins. When should I stop? Be well. Marie. Did have any impact on your cognitive abilities earlier on in your taper by any chance? Hello Taper Man. Thanks for stopping by. Yes, and I still have it. You know though, once we get through this we will be so sharp. It's a good idea to check out the light with an eye doc. It's likely nothing, but I checked it for retinal detachment, which is not good. It's rare though. There are hard parts of tapering mirt and easier parts. What you got to do is a slow, hyperbolic taper so you won't crash. I found a rhythm to the taper, so I could figure out how low and slow I should go. Be determined and stubborn like me and you will get through it. Be well. Marie. February 22Feb 22 Author Hello everyone. I've gone down to .20 mg and I am getting early cortisol happening. I am used to all the crap Mirt throws out, so I'm fine. I was thinking I was going to have a lot more cuts to go. I just realized once I get to .1 mg it's game over. I may double the liquid to make a dose of.05 mg. I will take a long hold before I stop, possibly a month, just to see if any strong w/d is left. I do feel pretty good at this dose so I've restarted my life. I'm able to travel, socialize, etc. I am going to concentrate on getting as fit as I can after the taper ends. Be well. Marie. February 23Feb 23 Author Hi NOW. I like to post updates since I think they can be helpful to taperers here, especially those you have a few meds to taper. There were not that many when I started. I made mistakes and learned from others. It looks like you have some good tapers going. I bet you will be a success story. Just keep going. Marie. February 26Feb 26 Author Hello. Lots of things happening to me but at least my taper is going well. It started in January with covid for a month. Covid ended then I had the eye problem. Yesterday I was on the treadmill and accidentally hit the 10 button, when I only go up to 2.3. I tried lowering the number quickly and it did not work. I have the attached safety wire but did not get a chance to pull it so I fell on my hands and knees. The treadmill did not stop even though the safety wire came off. No more treadmill for me. Luckily, I only have a knee burn from the moving treadmill. I'm going to see a theater show on Saturday night, 2/28, and then cut mirt from .2 mg to .18 mg. I'll keep going. Marie.
