Nickie Evans: Chronic withdrawal from Seroxat

Don't be surprised to hear them not agree with the 1mg. As @Chippy said, 1 mg still affects a huge amount of serotonin occupancy. (SERT). Paroxetine is the strongest serotonin inhibitor out of all the ADs.

The doctors have been educated by Big Pharma and Big Pharma has made these drugs so our bodies stay very dependent and then they make money. It is a sad fact.

In a highly sensitive state, more is never better. It just doesn't work that way. When I reinstated at 5 mg, I then thought since I was still a mess, 10 mg would be better.....I couldn't stop vomiting and crying...as soon as I dropped back to 5 mg, that react stopped. 5 mg was a lot after 3 months....I really think 1mg will make your reinstatement have a better chance at success.

I am really sorry you are dealing with this...this can be overcome. Lived experience from members is much more valuable than clinical theories written on paper. ❤️

As mentioned previously, reinstatement of paroxetine needed to be started at a very small dose...like 1 mg. 10 mg was way too much and is why you reacted the way you did. I am glad you are stabilizing.

You mentioned smoking. This is very hard on a CNS trying to stabilize. It may be something you would like to slowly reduce and eventually quit. Coffee/caffeine is also a stimulant that can impede healing. The more you can help you body by eating healthy and engaging in healthy habits the better.

@Chippy @LostinCanada

Six weeks I've been back on Paroxatine and remained at 10mg. Weeks 3&4 were great and I felt almost back to normal again. Last week I didn't feel so good, nothing major, just not as good as previously. On Tuesday this week mid morning I couldn't remember if I'd taken my tablet or not, knew taking 1 then was not an option as could have ended up taking the morning 1, but couldn't remember for sure. Resumed taking as usual Wednesday, Thursday and this morning but the last couple of days i feel worse each day, lingering anxiety, heart rate slightly up, inner body vibration, any advice please.

Seroxat from 1996 until its discontinuation December 2025.

14/03/26 Dr advising to start Esitalopram 5mg to help with current situation. (Not started, waiting advice from people here first)

Dr started me on Esitalopram just over 3 weeks ago, starting at 1mg, and increasing weekly by 1mg, currently on 3mg. Depression slightly lifted, horrific cortisol waves upon waking, cant function until up for several hours. Anxiety bad. Chronic diarrhoea.

Prevention: Set a daily alarm, use a medication container with dates, use a notepad with pen to verify taking them.

I use an alarm and only turn it off after taking them, it's a daily annoyance but it works for me.

It might be the skipped dose, it might be conincidence since you felt less good the week before too. I've reinstated on 10mg paroxetine before in 2023, and for me it took some months, emotionregulation therapy and somatic therapy approaches to feel stable again.

Since you've initially been feeling a lot better i'd say explore those coping and stress reduction skills and practises.

2018 Dec. Started Escitalopram 15 mg
2021 Oct. Switched to Paroxetine 20 mg
2021 & 2022 Upping and lowering dosages
2023 10mg Paroxetine
2024 17 Jun 7.5mg, 15 Jul 7mg, 5 Sept 6mg, 14 Oct 5mg, 12 Nov 4mg, 9 Dec 3mg.
2025 10 Mar 2mg.
2025 25 May 2.5 mg.
2025 ?? ??? 3 mg
2025 23 October 3.5 mg.

Just stay on your dose and let your nervous system stabilize.

if you generally struggle to remember whether you took your dose or not, there are apps with reminders and check marks to fill whenever you take your drugs so you would know if you took them or not.

I thought initially I was going to be like I was weeks 3&4, I really don't feel at all good yesterday and today. Is it not due to possibly missing a tablet on Tuesday? I was so hopeful all this was behind me.

Not necessarily, it seems like you are just in windows and waves pattern, which makes sense for it to last a bit, especially with you being off Seroxat for so long, and also going on a trial course with Escitalopram in that time.

Could you please update your Signature ? It would be useful for mentors, in a way it would be easier to understand your history without reading your whole thread history. Put dates and periods of you going on and off Escitalopram, add the date where you reinstated 10mg of Seroxat.

Thank you.

For some, missing one dose can take months to stabilize again. For others it may have no effect. The best thing to do is work on accepting the fact you are in a sensitive state and any change like a missed pill can add to that. As mentioned by @Vince set up some helps to prevent a missed dose again. Do all you can to make an environment for healing. Healing takes time. Be patient with yourself. ❤️🙏

Hey @Nickie Evans sorry you have had a rougher few days. It could just windows and waves and coincidence, but equally missing a dose can be quite destablising especially when your nervous system is so sensitive as yours will be right now. As others have said, there is not much you can do about it either way, other than do everything you can to not miss any further doses and allow time for your system to settle. Hope things ease soon, let us know how you are. x

It might be random windows and waves, or it might be due to missing a tablet.

Either way, the plan is the same- keep taking your dose consistently and wait for stabilisation in time.

It's worth taking steps to ensure doses can't be missed again, others have suggested setting alarms, you can also buy medication boxes that have a slot for each day of the week.

Nothing I say is medical advice, it is simply my opinion. I am an anonymous person on an internet forum with no relevant qualifications other than being badly harmed by a drug. Hi Nickie,

I’ve read your topic and I’m so sorry for what you have been through. It’s horrible and you wouldn’t wish this to anyone. I was just wondering; how did the reinstatement go further ? Did you stabilize? Greetings and love from the Netherlands

01-2018 fluoxetine 10 mg two weeks

02-2019 started Sertraline 150 mg with 10 sometimes 5 mg oxazepam for sleep- my sleep was not ok after 150 mg but I felt good

01-August 2025 in one moth quit Sertraline because of the symptoms (getting fat, tired and starting to feel some sadness)

12-2025 quit oxazepam

04-2026 because of major brain zap middle of the night started 25mg one week, up to 50mg next week and get depressed and quit. This was way too soon and a high dose.

I also started oxazepam again

17-Mei 2026 started 10 mg 3 days and 5 mg 2 days in the hospital.

21-5 quit Sertraline

I felt better after 5 days and then crashed again

27-6 quit oxazepam

9-8 RI Zoloft 1mg

31-8 RI Zoloft 2mg

I always take magnesium and fish oil

Hi yes thank you, things seem to be improving since I last posted, missing 1 Paroxatine tablet really threw me backwards the other week. I'd say I'm 90% back to how I was in December 2025 before this all started due to the sudden discontinuation of Seroxat being manufactured. I still have inner body vibration 24/7, particularly in the chest area, whether this is due to the psychiatrist not allowing me to do a slow taper off from mirtazapine or a side effect of the Paroxatine 10mg I've been on for the past few months, I dont know.

Hope your journey to recovery is going smoothly now.

This is really good news. Definitely missing a dose can cause some disruption. It's crazy how many doctors tell patients to take their dose every other day to taper....what a disaster.

The internal vibration around the chest area happens to me in the mornings from cortisol....I have found gentle exercise and vitamin C...good old orange juice helps. It may be worth trying. ❤️🙏
