Johan1233: Lexapro journey

Featured Replies

Hello everyone. I’m no stranger here, some of you might remember me from the old website.

Im currently on my second lot of WD after stabilizing last September. Back in WD mid December 2025

Feeling completely hopeless. I was recovering from December to mid February when symptoms started to get worse. Feb 16-20 getting worse every day. Then that weekend, uncontrollable crying with a few waves in the evening. Following Monday was ok but these last few days have been Hell. Panic, fear, anxiety, crying spells, insomnia, cortisol rushes, adrenaline 24/7. Like early WD symptoms. Of course I can’t shake the thought of poop out… do I hold a bit longer to see if it gets worse? Thank you

Hi @Johan1233

Welcome to the forum!

Thank you for making your intro topic. I have linked your SA thread above for you and copied your signature from SA too.

I had a quick read of your SA thread. Looking at your signature you have some done very fast tapering, from what I can tell.

Are you able to re do your signature to include all dose changes (inc tapers) and post in this format?

01 Jan 2025 Lexapro 2mg

02 Feb 2025 Lexapro 2.5mg

and so on.

Im really sorry you are suffering so. Please give us the most detailed drug history you can in the format above so we can understand better. 🙂

Hey @LostinCanada@AAoffZ_2@Raymond hope you’re all doing as well as you can in these circumstances. It’s been a few months since we last spoke. I got married at the end of August, and despite the withdrawal it was a great day. I stabilized soon after which was great. I lost my dad to a short battle with cancer early November which I dealt with ok, not sure how I would have dealt with it in my current state. Just dealing with the fall out of it all now which is stressful. Sending my love

Thanks for updating your signature @Johan1233 🙂

Looking at it now I can see why you had to hold so long. Very quick taper in Jun/Aug 24. WD. Then a couple of updoses followed but a big cut in Jan 25 then some more dose shifts after. Makes sense you took till Sept 25 to level out.

Question is why have you hit a wave in Dec?

I notice you are on a bunch of supplements. They can cause issues. How long have you been on them for? Since joining SA?

More interesting is the Loratadine, don't know it but it looks like an antihistamine. You taking that daily?

So sorry to hear about your Dad, that must be stressful, perhaps that has something to do with it.

Hey chippy. I’m still perplexed as to why I went back into WD in December. The only thing I can think is that my lexapro liquid was off. After the initial WD in December I noticed the liquid in my syringe wasn’t cloudy like it should. There also wasn’t a pungent smell from the ethanol content….

Regarding the supplements, I’ve taken magnesium and fish oil before WD with no issues. I only used loratadine in the summer to combat my hayfever but I’ve stopped that now

Thank you so much, he wasn’t a well man for a while so in a weird way it was a relief

I just went through this with my pills....it happens. I had it happen before and should have figured it out sooner...hindsight.

So hopefully you are on a new batch...are you still trying to get off the PPI?

Sorry to hear about your dad.

Congratulations on your wedding.

Yes it’s frustrating isn’t it. It could of course just a big horrible wave but I think you might be onto something with your liquid. I assume you’re back on a new bottle now?

We suggest not taking antihistamines. It’s your call if you think it’s not an issue. I appreciate hayfever isn’t nice. I’ve stopped giving my son them now. We tried local honey and he seems much better this last year. He was pretty bad at one point.

Hey LIC! Sorry to hear that about your pills. It’s an added stress knowing this can happen which is out of our control. It’s horrible. I opened a new bottle straight away(it’s the only liquid form they supply in the uk) but I’m hyper vigilant about the colour and smell of the liquid now so hopefully it won’t happen again. Fingers crossed.

I would love to taper off the rest of my PPI, evil thing. But I just want to stabilize a bit more. It’s been a rough few days.

Thanks for the response Chippy. Unfortunately I went through all the usual WD emotions like I did back in Feb 25. Feeling rubbish to start, then feeling better and now I’m guessing these last few week are my peak symptoms as I understand it the peak symptoms take a bit of time to hit

Good to know about the antihistamines. Ok stay well away from them this summer and maybe try the honey instead. Love honey(in moderation)

Hello @Johan1233

I read your thread on SA and saw you mentioned having vision problems at one point. How is that now? Did you notice any improvements? Thank you in advance!

My story: https://antidepressantrecovery.org/topic/87-marina-onoffonoff-zoloft-since-end-of-2020/

History:

• November 2020 - March 2022: 50 mg Zoloft (first WD - mostly mental symptoms)

• July and August 2022: psilocybin microdosing

• End of August 2022: medium dose psilocybin

• January 2023reinstated Zoloft 50 mg (but probably experinenced adverse reaction/tolerance/poop-out)

• October 2024: started slow taper off Zoloft

• September 2025: switched to compounded capsules (second WD started - both physical and mental symptoms)

• May 2026: still tapering but in liquid form; currently at cca 0,1 mg

Symptoms:

Windows and waves pattern of healing.

In a wave:

• severe DP/DR - reality seems strange and creepy and I feel a disconnect from my life, myself, God and the world around me, deep depression, stuck in my head, disinterest for my previous hobbies and work, hopeless, intrusive thoughts, cortisol mornings...

• histamine intolerance, vision problems (eye floaters/VSS/light sensitivity), tinnitus, muscle twitches...

Thanks mate! I’ve got everything crossed all the time😁I noticed you mentioned you had a son, how old? I’ve got two girls, ones 4.5 and the other almost 2. Boy WD is tough with young kids but at the same time they get me through each day.

Glad you’re getting on ok👍🏻🙌🏼

My lads 12 mate. Yep he’s my little best mate, best thing I ever did become a Dad.

Hey @Marina. I suffered with frequent dizzy spells, even when I was stable I would get them for a day here and there. They were normally accompanied by feeling groggy. I had low ferritin for a while so I was convinced that was causing the dizziness but it was just WD…..😒

Thank you @Johan1233 for your reply. But I meant more specific symptoms connected to eyes/vision... Now I'm not sure if I read something wrong... But I feel like you mentioned light sensitivity, maybe eye floaters...?

Also, did your DP/DR get better? And sensitivity to watching TV/movies, listening to music?

Thank you!

Sorry @Marina it’s been one of those brain foggy days. If I recall I had light sensitivity but I think it was dwarfed by my other symptoms that I didn’t pay much attention to it. It didn’t last long though if I recall

DP/DR was very infrequent thankfully. I remember 2 really bad days just before I had a long window back last February.

Sensitivity to  music & tv was a big thing for me. When my partner wanted to watch a series or a film I just couldn’t. So either she didn’t as well or I just sat and read a book. But that only lasted a few months

Thank you @Johan1233

For me it's very random with TV shows/movies/music. I never know how I'll react. Some things are just fine, and some very bening things disturb me a lot. Some months ago my boyfriend and I started watching Formula 1 movie and for me it felt like watching a horror movie. 🙈

I totally understand that! I’m getting that terribly at the moment, any social media is a no no. And like you I watched a f1 documentary on Netflix and it was too much!

@Johan1233 Sorry to hear that! I hope we stop reacting that way soon. 🙏🏻 It's extra hard when we can't even have a fun distraction.
