Have you ever talked to Dr. Horowitz? It might be worth setting up an appointment with him if you're worried that holding isn't helping you.

Hi Sara, I’ve spoken to Dr Horowitz twice .. How’s your hold going?

Ok great. And he said to hold is that right?

My hold's going alright, I'm definitely not stable or anything but I do feel like my average has improved if I look back to where I started. My symptoms are still pretty unpredictable and all over the place, but I'm decently functional so I'm lucky in that way.

How are you doing?

I’m not a medical professional and cannot offer medical advice. I am new to this journey and my thoughts are based only on my personal experience with psychiatric drugs. This is a peer site where we support each other on our taper/recovery journeys.

Current regimen:

Cymbalta - 90 mg/day

Seroquel - 12.5 mg/day

*holding to stabilize as of Apr 2026

Cymbalta - 60 mg/day, periodically down to 30 mg/day - May 2014 to May 2025

Clonazepam - up to 1 mg/day as needed - March to May 2025, quick taper off

Zoloft - 150 mg/day - May 2025 to Aug 2025 (quick cross-taper from Cymbalta)

Pristiq - 50 mg/day from Aug 2025 to mid-Oct 2025 (quick cross-taper from Zoloft); 100 mg/day from Oct 2025 to Dec 2025; back down to 50 mg/day from Dec 2025 to Jan 2026

The reason I brought his up is because he said he has seen patients hold for two years. With little to no reprieve

This was kind of a throwaway sentence at the beginning of the video without much context, so I wouldn't put too much stock in it. I would be inclined to trust Dr. Horowitz's assessment and try to just keep taking things day by day and not focus too much on timelines. I'm sorry this is still so hard. It won't be forever.

@Luke @Chippy what are your thoughts on that?

I just very quickly skipped through the video and I think the bit you are referring too is about when people RI the drug and worsen rather than improve and then just hold at that dose for a long time hopeing to stablise. I think he is right in as much as if a RI doesn't help at all and you think it may be irritating to your nervous system, there probably does become a point where a careful taper off is worth considering, bit like in poop out for example. It's why I am always nervous when people RI too high and then choose to hold, I think high dose RI can be very bad, when they come here I like to try to get them to reduce and get that drug lower as quickly as possible if they have not been back on it too long.

Not sure this applies to you?
