Cheeky: Paxil and Seroquel Long Term Use

Featured Replies

Accchh, Cheeky. I was so happy about your window. It's a heartbreak for me to see this wave come on. I know how disappointed you must feel.

Your body knows how to heal as evidenced by the window. Hang tight, girl. The windows will come. ❣️

Sept 1993 Began paroxetine 20 mg for anxiety and depression- worked like a charm.

1st taper - Aug 1995 tapered over 3 weeks before getting pregnant- great at first, crashed at one month. White knuckled it through 2 miscarriages. Spring 1996 (?) Reinstated paroxetine 20 mg.

2nd taper- Spring 2008 tapered off paroxetine over 4 months. Summer 2008 crashed horribly, nearly incapacitated by WD; Summer 2008-Summer 2009 tried 4 different ADs, none as effective as paroxetine.  Summer 2009 Reinstated 20 mg paroxetine, not as effective as previously.

3rd taper- Jun 19, 2019 began 10 mg paroxetine, 10 mg fluoxetine for one week. Jun 26 20 mg fluoxetine, 5 mg paroxetine for one week. Jul 3- 20 mg fluoxetine + lorazepam (0.5 mg) as needed up to 2x/day. Aug 12- 30 mg fluox; Sept 3- .5 mg clonazepam daily; end lorazepam; Sept 5- 40 mg fluox;

End of 2019- returned to paroxetine 20 mg/day most of the year, 30mg/day in the winter.

BEGIN 4th TAPER ATTEMPT: Jul 13 2025- 30 -> 25 mg; 10 Sept -> 22.5mg;  3 Oct -> 20 mg; 10 Oct -> hold 2 weeks; 2 Nov -> 19.5 mg; 9 Nov -> 19 mg; 16 Nov -> hold 1 week; 22 Nov -> 18.6 mg; 30 Nov -> 18.2 mg; 7 Dec -> hold 1 week; 14 Dec -> 17.8 mg; 21 Dec -> 17.5 mg; 28 Dec -> 17.1 mg; 4 Jan 2026 -> 16.7 mg -> hold 2 weeks ; 28 Jan -> 16.4 mg; 1 Feb -> 16.0 mg; 8 Feb -> 15.7 mg; 15 Feb -> hold 2 weeks; 1 Mar -> 15.5 mg; 8 Mar -> 15.2 mg; 15 Mar -> hold; 5 Apr -> 14.9.

Okay update,

So I went to Korea for a holiday and I've been feeling really good for the last three weeks. It's been five months since I held my dose since I had the complications with my medications and I have slightly gotten better as my windows have gotten more but I'm back into a wave the last couple of days and I'm feeling really disheartened because I thought I could eventually start my taper again. I don't want to do anything until my nervous system is calm as possible but I also really want to get off these drugs. I feel like I'm just wasting time. I just f Don't understand how you can feel so good and positive one day and then once in a wave you crumble again.

Hey @cheeky

Im loving you had a good time and a window in Korea! Such great news.

I know you want off the drug, that makes sense. You are right though, to not rush and rock the boat. I know the waves and windows can feel endless and brutal, but your hold has been paying off. I’d hold for longer. Get the stable platform and then consider a taper plan from there. Be worth thinking seriously about potentially a more gentle micro taper when you recommence. Chippy

Thanks @Chippy.,

I have been doing the micro taper previously I think my percentage was too big for my brain to handle . After all my years on this and the challenges trying to come off the wrong way I think my brain in ultra  sensitive and will take me much longer then most people . What a trap im

On Paxil since 1995. Seroquel added 2014 after withdrawal crash. History of too-fast tapers/reinstatements.

21 April 2025 taper two drugs at once

Paxil 4% Seroquel 3.5% per month

that ended up being too much and changed to one drug at a time

13 Jul 2025: 4% Paxil cut

29 Jul 2025: 5% Paxil cut

6 Aug 2025: began hold

Oct 2025: changed from liquid to powder and accidentally took 10x Seroquel dose for 2 weeks by mistake

23 Oct 2025: returned to liquid with accidental 4.7% Seroquel cut

 Holding both drugs to stablize

Holding at Paxil 8.25 mg / Seroquel 6.5

Paxil taper

Hey Cheeky

There will be a silver linings I’m sure!

Looking at your signature your holding due to a misdose and formulation change? I’m sure these events have just caused a lot of the destabilisation.

Not sure what your previous taper looked like. Your footer suggests 4% followed by 1% in July? I can see you estimate you did a 4.7% cut as part of the misdose/formulation change in oct.

Did you take tiny daily decreases? Have a read here. Might be useful.

Micro Tapering

You will get there eventually. I know it doesn’t feel like it in the midst of wave. Xxx

@Chippy

this is the reason I've been holding for 5 months

March 2025

• Restarted tapering:

– Paxil: 3.5% reduction

– Seroquel: 3% reduction both at the same time

June 2025

• Decision made to taper one medication at a time only

• Paxil: 4% reduction

July 2025

• Paxil reduced further to approximately 8.40 mg (total ~5% reduction)

Octobee 2025 – Formulation Change

• Changed Seroquel from liquid to compounded powder

During this period, an accidental dosing error occurred

Approximately 10× i Seroquel dose taken for two weeks  then when I changed back to liquid suspension I dropped my Seroquel by 4.7% accidentally

• This occurred while nervous system was already destabilised

• Began full medication hold due to withdrawal symptoms and instability

• Current doses at hold start:

– Paxil: 8.25 mg

– Seroquel: 6.5 mg

On Paxil since 1995. Seroquel added 2014 after withdrawal crash. History of too-fast tapers/reinstatements.

Six months might sound long but not long considering how strong these drugs can be and  the accumulative effects of past cuts . Sometimes there's really no reason why things happen. It could get easier for you later on nobody knows that's the problem with all of this. I'm just grateful I've had 100% normal days and feeling good but I'm also not on the lower doses yet either.
I just never seen to get used to being in a wave when I've had so many of them before, I know what to expect but it never makes it easier

I get this completely. You have to say over and over again "it's just a wave, it will pass". Try and distract. It's so so hard.

Hope you're doing OK today.

Thanks it really helps getting that support . I too dread the mornings ,  it's such an effort  getting up and facing the world .

Paxil taper

Update:

On 26 March, I changed to a new syringe for my liquid Paxil dosing. After checking measurements, I realised that the new syringe delivers slightly less than my previous one, which has resulted in an unintentional reduction of approximately 4%.

Based on this, my dose has effectively gone from 8 mg to around 7.7 mg.

I’ve now been on this adjusted dose for about 2 weeks. I initially had a really good week, followed by a wave over the past several days, which I now understand could be my system responding to this reduction.

My plan is to hold at this dose and allow my system to stabilise before making any further changes. I seem to be the Queen 👸 of making mistake's  , so let's see how this pans out .

Dear Cheeky, what a frustrating inconvenience.

However, the positive is that you are on less med - Yay!!! And you picked up on the error. That was very clever of you. I am not sure I would have noticed.

How are you going? Are you able to function during the wave?

I did receive a syringe tip just recently to buy a box of the same brand syringe. (I think they come in boxes of 100). Maybe something you could consider?

Hoping for a quick recovery from this drop and back into a window.

Sorry about the mismatch in syringes @cheeky, so many variables, can be hard to keep track! Your doing great. Youll settle down, plus a few more drops less, win!
