Cheeky: Paxil and Seroquel Long Term Use

Featured Replies

I am appreciating this conversation a lot.

I actually don't measure my water with the syringe. (I have weighed 40ml). Cheeky, do you use your 10ml syringe x 4 to get the water?

1998 Paroxetine 20mg, getting to 60mg and staying there for many years.

Started reducing by 10mg at a time, December 2018 to June 2019. At 30mg held for 2 and a half years.

Beginning 2023, start micro tapering from 30mg

End 2023 - 18.76. End 2024 - 13.37. End 2025 - 8.58

2026 - 31 Jan - 8.38, 15 Feb - 8.19, 07 March - 8.06, 14 March - 8.00, 08 April - holding and start liquid transition, 22 May completed liquid transition 8mg (16ml) held for 1 month

Yes I do , make sure you use the same syringe for both . It's really important

On Paxil since 1995. Seroquel added 2014 after withdrawal crash. History of too-fast tapers/reinstatements.

21 April 2025 taper two drugs at once

Paxil 4% Seroquel 3.5% per month

that ended up being too much and changed to one drug at a time

13 Jul 2025: 4% Paxil cut

29 Jul 2025: 5% Paxil cut

6 Aug 2025: began hold

Oct 2025: changed from liquid to powder and accidentally took 10x Seroquel dose for 2 weeks by mistake

23 Oct 2025: returned to liquid with accidental 4.7% Seroquel cut

 Holding both drugs to stablize

Holding at Paxil 8.25 mg / Seroquel 6.5

Paxil taper

So, despite the 4% difference, proportionately, things were the same. That said, I treated the changeover as another change and held my dose for a month as a result.

Also, I’ve seen some weigh their syringes with the dose in them as a double check. Don’t overthink it. Once you switch to the micropipette, you can trust

This is great advice. 😊

This conversation is really great!

However you measure your water is fine. So long as it’s consistent. Even just marking a jar and pouring to that mark each time is fine for most I suspect. Until you change syringe!

Measuring with the syringe is brilliant. Keeps the ratio the same such a good idea. I know many do it for convenience but this thread proves how important it is!

Think it should be standard advice in the diy document @LostinCanada

Okay I need reassurance,

I had such a great time in Korea and got a couple of weeks I felt normal and happy and I thought I was getting better , then the last nine days I've hit a wave and it's really made me doubt everything . I feel like I've gone backwards . I'm really trying to not give into the fear but I'm struggling with this . Yesterday was a really awful day , crying , aniexty , head pressure , fatigue and depression . I know very well this is a wave and has to happen to repair my brain but it's so hard to float through this . If I was tapering and getting somewhere I could slightly accept but I've been holding for 5 months since the big mistake I made with my dosing then decreasing by 4.7% of my seroquel .

I'm just having a difficult time .

On Paxil since 1995. Seroquel added 2014 after withdrawal crash. History of too-fast tapers/reinstatements.

Yesterday was a tough one for me too....then I thought... everybody no matter who, is dealing with something. This is just our something. I find what helps me is just trying to alleviate the stress by telling myself, my most important job is to heal... don't pressure yourself with anything if at all possible.

You know what's going on. And you know time will fix this. You're not going backwards. Even though I know it feels like it. It is so frustrating.

Are you working today? Do you have a distraction?

These waves take it completely out of you, I know. I know how hard it is to care yourself, let alone your family as well.

You really are doing amazing. You DO look after your family. You ARE working full time.

You will get through this day, one hour at a time. And then you will be one day closer to a window.

I have read the lovely things you have written to other people to encourage them, you will have to apply that to yourself, even though it is incredibly hard. 😊 I wish there was more I could say or do, but I am thinking of you, and here for you.

Sending love

Exactly…we have to let go of perfect expectations….it doesn’t help us. We are doing our best against all odds. If we were dealing with any other illness, we would give ourselves lots of slack…this is absolutely no different and in some ways much harder because we don’t have medical support like other illnesses do.

Acceptance and kindness.

Exactly right LostinCanada,

If you were sick with a medically recognised illness, noone would be expecting anything from you except to rest and get well.

You are strong and brave, Cheeky.

Thank you both @Wombat @LostinCanada it really helps to get this support, I just have to get through the day . If we had the medical system supporting us it would make such a big difference .

Having the medical system support would make a huge difference in many aspects.

a) not being afraid to tell your doctor what you are going through and being told "it is just you"

b) belief from the wider society

c) some people would be able to access government support

d) access to more help from various support peoples like pharmacists/psychologists etc.

I am sure there are many others.

I liken this to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome where I believe a number of years ago it was also not considered an illness (until the 1980's I think).

But the tide turned for that illness. And in time, I believe the same will happen for antidepressant withdrawal.

Hoping this wave will clear soon, Cheeky.

Gee, I am so sorry @cheeky for this recent suffering. It's really devastating after you've had a taste of how enjoyable your life can be. I am so impressed that you are working and taking care of your family through this. That truly is a labor of love for which you should be proud. That doesn't help much, I know. I'll be praying for your peace in a little while when I turn out the lights.

I'm with you in spirit and praying for your healing.

With love,

Jamie

I’m sorry to read @cheeky

As you said, just a wave. Your beautiful window is proof of your progress. It can take such a long time to settle after a bump in the road like you had. 5 months may seem long, but you are setting yourself up for a hopefully smoother taper down the line. I know the waves are tough. Hang in there, you’re doing the right thing holding, even if it feels frustrating at times!

So sorry @cheeky I feel you very well.

We already know that this is a non-linear process so it hits when it hits, so very hard to bear indeed and the feeling of regression although feels real it's not, in reality you keep moving forward and learning through the difficulty.

Hang in there, you are brave and doing great!

bright and beautiful window like you had in Korea will undoubtedly come, it is just hard to believe it when it is dark.

Thankyou @Beehive , tonight I have been better not still nor back 100% normal

Paxil taper

22/4 8.23  29/4 8.20  5/5 8.15 13/5 8.05  3/6 8 11/6 7.95
