Luke: Severe Mirtazapine Withdrawal

Featured Replies

Hey Luke, I’m catching up on posts.   Chronic issues can weigh a person down but you persevere! I know you will get to wherever you would like as a healed place. But the timeline is unknown and tricky. I believe you related you had no other chronic health conditions before. So it concerns me about other so called “medical interventions”. I can PM you.

I will say a prayer/positive thoughts for you and the rest of the people on here tonight. I hope you sleep well and wake up feeling well tomorrow. Thank you for starting this community with Chippy’s help. You will be and probably are being greatly rewarded for this. Big sunny windows for you!

@namastejen1 Thank you for the kind words.

I can assure you than no medical interventions are currently planned, other than seeing a specialist about one of my symptoms in August.

My doctors wasted from early 2023 to early 2025 refusing to refer me to any specialists, and then when they finally did after I started putting things In writing, there was another 18ish month wait to see them.

They still maintain I received excellent medical care that they specifically stated that they were "proud of" in writing though.

Oh boy, sounds like a bunch of hogwash from them. I still have to PM you about my thoughts--not saying you should plan anything either. Will PM now and head off of here for the night.

Be well, my friend 🙏🏼

I have been doing a fair bit better since my last update, by far the best I've been since all of this.

Not symptom-free, but everything dialled down a lot. In particular, my sleep is still poor relative to a healthy person, but I have been sleeping more and crucially, it finally feels like I achieved at least some rest when I wake up.

I'm still having difficulties with tiredness, and various symptoms flaring up at random, but overall it has been manageable for the last week or so.

I had a pre-planned break from the forum after today for a week, that was going to happen whether or not I felt ok, but I wanted to post this update before I took this break.

In the last week off the forum, I've been mostly a bit ill, with a couple of days that were like going 3/4 of the way back to acute- bedridden and very ill, along with the usual psychological torture.

I'm okayish again in the last day or two. The psychological symptoms are difficult but the physical aspect of this is bad.

Nearly a week ago, I was 2 years and 10 months off of Mirtazapine.

Nothing I say is medical advice, it is simply my opinion. I am an anonymous person on an internet forum with no relevant qualifications other than being badly harmed by a drug. I feel for you @Luke having been through a Mirt taper. I ended up in a heap.  Had to try something to get me out of the hole I was in. Enter Amitriptyline and reinstatement of Escitalopram. I hope this is the beginning of a long period of stability. Take care 🤗

Oh, Luke. I have been off of the site too with my mom and then reestablishing back home/work/kiddo and kiddo brings home a virus. So sorry to hear that things have gotten worse but it does seem you are little better now. This is unreal but you have done such a wonderful thing here. You channeled your issues into creating this space with Chippy. It will all stack up in your favor. You will see. Blessings and hugs to you.

So sorry Luke that you are still suffering and it has been so protracted.

The psychological torture is just hell.

It has to turn for you sometime given how far you have come.

Pleased you had at least some tolerable days. Maybe the return of the light in your hemisphere will bring some shifts.

I'm sorry to hear that you've been unwell.

Some days are bad, some are ok. Not good or great, but ok. The bad days can still be pretty bad. Mostly, I am struggling physically.

I am improving in time. I just need plenty more of it, and the extent to which it'll happen seems unclear. However, if I keep improving in time, surely there will come a time when I am doing well.

2 years and 11 months off of using Mirtazapine for a few months.

I don't live a life worth the suffering I have experienced. Maybe one day I will, maybe I won't. It would have been far better if I had not had help to stay alive after my initial withdrawal.

When I look at other stories of people still in PAWS this far out, they're normally having minor residual symptoms but living a normal life, being active and so on and they're absolutely devastated to have occasional waves around that inbetween living a good, normal life.

Can't do most of the things I enjoy, struggle to socialise around the physical issues, cannot exercise and can only watch my body deteriorate further whilst I desperately do the small amount I can, can't live any kind of life other than with my parents in my mid 30s, no idea if it's safe to ever have a family, can't seek a partner, can't plan anything.

All I can do is get through each day as best I can, whilst being exhausted and suffering various physical symptoms, while wasting years of my life and losing everything.

Nothing I say is medical advice, it is simply my opinion. I am an anonymous person on an internet forum with no relevant qualifications other than being badly harmed by a drug. Dear @Luke I cannot imagine what you've been through and the suffering you've had to and still endure. You give so much to others through the creation of this forum. I and I'm sure many others are so grateful for this. You are giving back to the community of people like us and I trust you realise how appreciative we all are.  I wish I had words to offer solace. All I can say is people who focus on only today or even only on this moment seem to somehow come out the other side.  I feel for you and your despair feels palpable.  Hang in there 🤗

Not everyone is capable of accepting being spontenously disabled like that. Especially if you were a weightlifter and lost all of your progress because of these evil drugs. I can understand Luke 100%, since I cannot accept this either. It is simply very cruel and I dont think we need to teach him how to handle it.

I can accept it cause with all I went through, I can live being confined to my house which i am 99% of the time except when I have to go out.

Im still dealing with my original condition.

being bed bound and be able to do nothing at all, now I can do stuff in my house that don't require exertion, it's not as bad.

Acceptance is very important. We are not all ready for it that’s all. Lighty is just trying to offer some support I think rather than tell Luke what he must do. You’re the best Mischa we love you too.

Breaks my heart to read this, so sorry you're suffering so much @Luke I know it feels like eternity but it's not, really not, you are most likely in the hardest and challenging time of your life and you're surviving, that's a lot in itself, I know you want more than that and it will come, I know that, just keep pushing forward, try your best to stay in the present, the past and the future are irrelevant, when I dive there it doesn't take me to good places.

All I can say is that you're stronger than you think, with a big heart, look at the life-saving home you've built for all of us in the midst of the hell you're going through, who would be able to lift something like that, certainly not me.

Wishing you relief soon, you deserve it so much.

@Luke

Ive got no words of comfort really. You’ve been in this long enough to know how long the road you’re walking could be. However, I’ve followed your thread for 2 years now and you’re improving, not as fast as you or any of us would like but you’re slowly moving in the right direction.
You’ll get there eventually Luke, I genuinely believe that, you’ve shown incredible strength of character to get this far so just keep pushing forwards in the same manner. Better days are coming!

We’re all thinking of you.

Diazepam 5mg x 3 daily for 6 weeks. These doses varied from 15 to 5mg daily until the last week where I was tapered from 10mg to 0 in 6 days.
