Sandnit: Tapering journey escitalopram

Quick update: Yesterday turned out to be one of my best days in weeks. I even had moments where I felt like my old self again. Today isn't as good, but it's still much better than the heavy chemical anxiety I had before. It's more of a "meh" day with underlying unease, but it's manageable. I guess this really shows how non-linear healing is. I'm holding on to the idea that these windows mean my nervous system is finding its way back to stability.

In 2016 Paroxetine 20mg for 4 months then stopped more or less cold Started 10mg Escitalopram 4 Mar 2022

From 10 to 20mg on 19 Apr 2022

From 20 to 15mg on 23 Jun 2022

From 15mg to 7,5mg on 5 Sept 2022 (I was supposed to drop from 15mg to 12,5mg but I accidentally used 5mg and half of 5mg pills instead of 10mg and half of 5mg pills, when I found out 2 weeks later I decided to keep to 7,5mg since most of the WD symptoms subsided by then, I now regret this. From 7,5mg to 5mg on 23 Sept 2022

Started Cross tapering Escitalopram 5mg to tapering strip brand from 26th of feb 2024 over one week and stabilised on 5mg untill 31 March 2024.

31 March 2024 started taper using tapering strips.

A small update. The last few days have been a real rollercoaster. I had one of my best days in weeks last Thursday and actually felt like my old self for parts of the day, followed by a couple of real difficult days again. The mornings are still the hardest. The chemical anxiety is still there, but the peaks feel less intense than they did a few weeks ago. Some physical symptoms also seem to be changing: my nausea has disappeared, my cold feet on waking have almost gone, and the muscle twitching actually seemed to be improving for a while, but flared up again this morning and has been quite noticeable. I'm trying to stay patient, trust the process, and remind myself that I've stabilized before. Come on, nervous system.....!! But boy it feels like my nervous system is going through a major renovation. Praying for better days to come ....for all of us.

@Chippy , Thank you! I really needed to hear that. This morning has been another tough one, so it's hard not to doubt everything again. Is it common to have a proper window followed by a few difficult days like this? I'm trying to trust the process, but these mornings can be discouraging.

Oh yes! So common! WD is kinda cruel in that way, gives you hope and takes it away. Trying to keep that understanding of the process and the front of your mind is helpful, then when the worse times come you worry less. Hard sometimes but just remember if you can have periods of feeling better, then they can come back right!

@Chippy . I'll keep reminding myself of that. As difficult as these mornings still are, I'm not really sure (or maybe I just don't want to jinx it 😅), but I do feel like my baseline is very slowly improving. Thanks again for all your support, mate!

@Sandnit like you I’m trying to stabilize and I can tell I’m making progress when I look at my pattern over the last few months. But I absolutely have windows followed by days where I feel like I’m right back at square one. So don’t let those days pull you down any more than they have to! You’re making your way to stability, one day at a time.

@Fullhealing thanks for dropping by! I'm still doing fairly well overall. I've had a few more good days since then, with ups and downs. It really feels like my baseline is slowly creeping upwards, which is encouraging. I'll definitely take tiredness over the chemical anxiety. Wishing you all the best too!!

Amazing, so pleased for you @Sandnit those moments of relief, like oxygen! And thank you for the wishes, had extra horrible month but in the last two days there is finally some relief, thanks God for that, thought I'll never feel sane again.

I hope it only continues to get better for you, keep up the positive spirit, you are really doing great xx

@Fullhealing I'm really glad to hear you've finally had some relief and oxygen too!!! . I can really relate, as I had a very rough period myself before these better days started to appear. I truly hope this is the beginning of a better stretch for both of us. Take care. xx

Today has been a bit tougher. I actually felt quite okay this morning, but later it turned into a very strange, foggy feeling. It's different from before and hard to describe, but it's definitely not a pleasant feeling at all. The intense chemical anxiety is still much less than it used to be, though. @Chippy , all part of the process and non lineair right ;) ?

@Sandnit I think a lot of us, including myself, have struggled a lot with brain fog. Totally normal! I tell myself that changing symptoms are a sign of the brain working towards stability. You’re on the right path 😊.

@SarahMc , thanks for your reply! I find that with this feeling also comes the inability to feel happy or excited about anything.... I think i had this before in past waves ..... Well it is better than the chemical anxiety feeling.... So i wont complain and overall i think the baseline is creeping up.... So not bad ! Sending you healing!!
